Is there anyone related to them that is still living and would they be willing to get in touch with me about the name. My grandmother's maiden name was Kolsto and she was from Karmoy, a small island off the coast of Haugesund in Norway. Thanking you in advance.

RAINES, WELCH, WHITMAN posted by Joanne Wilken on Saturday, July 11, 2009

George T WELCH born 11/1846 in VA, married Mary WHITMAN born 1854 in Ill on 08/11/1876 in Delhi, IA. George died 07/28/1936 in Vinton. Mary died 10/17/1919 in Vinton. We have much information on Mary. We cannot locate this family in the 1880, 1895, or 1910 census. We cannot locate an obituary for George WELCH. We believe that George's parents were: Thomas WELCH and Mary RAINES. Any help will be appreciated. Are there any descendants of this couple in the area?

MARTIN posted by Nona Kummell on Friday, July 24, 2009

MARTIN. In the 1870 census, Daniel Galer MARTIN was living with son, John Evan MARTIN and his wife, Rosella. In the 1880 census, John is still there with his younger brother AV MARTIN. Does anyone have a clue if Daniel died and was buried close by? There is no further mention of him anywhere we can find. Daniel was born 12-06-1810 in NY and was married to Rhoda Whitcomb and apparently divorced before 1865. Would appreciate any leads at all.

Peter Olie JOHNSON born about Apr 1885, son of John JOHNSON and Julia NELSON, married to Stella Bertha SCHULTZ born about 1901, daughter of Henry SCHULTZ and Anna STEFFENSON. John and Julia JOHNSON, Peter, Henry and Anna STEFFENSON were all living in St Clair Twp, Benton Co, IA in the 1900 census. A son of Peter Olie Johnson is still living in Ames, IA and he is my brother-in-law.

FISH, HARE, TISH, TOWN posted by Terry R. Todd on Saturday, October 17, 2009

Titus TISH (FISH) and wife Electra are listed in the 1860 Benton Co., IA census with daughters Alace age 3 and Martha HARE age 10. I believe Martha is a niece of Electra. Martha was born in Shabbona Grove, DeKalb Co. IL to Henry HARE and Aubilla (sp?). I believe Aubilla and Electra are sisters and daughters of Edmund and Sarah TOWN, who are buried in Floyd Co., IA. Edmund and Sarah are raising Mary HARE age 12 in the Shabbona Grove, DeKalb Co., IL census. I cannot find Henry and Aubilla HARE in any 1860 census so I presume they died in the 1850's possible from a cholera epidemic that occured in that time frame. Please contact me if you have any information on these HARE girls.
