LIKENS, LUX posted by Kristen Benakis on Sunday, August 1, 1999

I'm looking for information on the LIKENS family. I have an extensive list of historical birth/death/marriage/baptism dates that have led me to discover much about my family. My great-grandmother is Winnefred Belle LIKENS (born 18 Nov 1884). She was the daughter of Byron and Florence LIKENS, and had 2 sisters, Mabel and Geneva. Her father and his 2 brothers (Darwin and Ira) were baptized in Polk Township (Benton County) in the 1860/70's. Other sketchy details place the family in the Vinton area. However, references to the family in more recent letters and papers suggest that her family name was LUX. I am wondering why/when this name change occurred.
