THOMPSON - Florence township. This family is listed in "the 1878 History ofmBenton county" "THOMPSON, SOPHIA, MRS., farming, S. 30; P. O. Florence; born in Norway, Europe, in 1831; has eighty acres of land, valued at $40 per acre; has three children -- Martha B., Wm. O. and Annie Bell; is the widow of Wm. B. Thompson, Mr. Thompson enlisted Sept. 20, 1861, in the 8th Iowa V. I.; was taken prisoner at the battle of Pittsburg Landing April, 1862; was kept in Montgomery and Macon, Ga., prisons six months; was exchanged at Annapolis, Md. Mrs. Thompson came to America in 1850; located in La Salle Co., Ill.; moved to Iowa Co., Iowa, in 1857, and located in Benton Co. in 1861. Mrs. Thompson is a member of The Lutheran Church. Mr. Thompson lost his health in prison, and was transferred to the Invalid Corps of Company K, 4th Regiment, and was discharged in Sept., 1864; died in 1868 in Benton, Co., Iowa". My information says they both came from Aardal parish, Hjelmeland kommune (twp.), Rogaland Fylke, Norway - but I dont have an accurate information says who they where. I think William B. Thompson was: Belest Thoreson, b. May 11.1831 at the crofters place Einarsmyra at Midtre Sedberg farm in Aardal. He came to US in 1853. I think this is William Thompson that m. Sophia Olson Jan. 20.1855 in LaSalle, Il. This Sophia is perhaps Sofie Olsdtr. Lid, b. 1831 in Aardal, came to US in 1850. I belive this is the William B. Thompson b. 31.05.1831, d. 8.12.1868, burried at the Norwegian Cemetery near Norway, Benton Co. Their daughter Martha m. Henry (Osmundson) Tuttle, b. 1858 in IL, lived in Benton county. A brother to Martha - William lived in Hills, Minnesota. I,m register/researching the emigrants from Hjelmeland - and would like to be contacted by people which have information for this family.
