WOODS, BURNETT, BAKER, McCORKLE, BOSWORTH, ALLEN, HENKLE. PHELPS Wish to exchange information concerning John C. WOODS (1844-1914) and his wives Magnolia BKAER and Jane LaVere BURNETT. The family came from Jackson Co IA to Benton Co IA after the Civil War and many remained in the area living at Vinton, Shellsburg, Palo and Clemence.

I'm searching for info. on Alfred MOORE who apparently lived in Benton Co. during the 1840's. Alfred was my great great grandfather. I have traced his son (my great granddad DOB 1842) Simon MOORE to Monterey, CA. Simon's death cetificate states that he was born in Cedar Rapids which is Linn Co., not Benton Co. Unfortunately, the info. on the death certificate may or may not be correct. I have no info. on Alfred's wife or their other children. Does anyone have any info. on my ancestors?

John M TRIPP born abt 1843 NY son of Benjamin TRIPP and Jemima ?? married Louisa Kelly in Kendall Co IL in 1865 and went to Benton Co IA. Lived in Mt Auburn area. Would like to hear from anyone connected to this line. Need to know Benjamin and Jemimas parents names. John and Louisa TRIPP had son Fred born abt 1880 and Robert born abt 1881.

Frank M. AVERY born abt 1876 Benton Co IA, son of William and Sarah Tripp AVERY. They lived on section 25 Mt Auburn IA. Frank married Mrs Anna Ralston Crow, widow of Braxton Crow, in 1907. Would like to get in touch with anyone who knows of this family. Frank had a sister Elma who lived with the LUPTON family, and a brother Allison who married a Nellie??, a brother Melville who married Jennie COLLINS, and a brother Roy who married Lillie FRAZEE. No other information on Elma.

Alexander had a brother William CROW who married Margaret's sister Lydia and they were also in Benton Co. Children of Alexander and Marg. were William Sidney, Joseph, Laura Izabella, Mary Jane, Andrew, Edward and Braxton. Would like to get in touch with anyone connected to these names.

COOK, TROUTMAN. The 1856 IA Census shows, in LeRoy Twp. (now Eldorado), Benton Co. the following joint household: Peter Troutman 58 PA, Sarah Troutman 50, Daniel Troutman 18, John H. Troutman 16, Sarah Troutman 11, Dennis Cook 26 PA, Elizabeth Cook 23, Catherine Cook 5, Calvin Cook 3, James M. Cook 2. Peter Troutman immigrated within the year from Somerset Co., PA. His wife, Sarah, b. OH is recent marriage, she being mother of only Sarah by previous marriage. Who is Dennis Cook and what is his connection?

SPRACKLIN, Soloman G. born Knox County, Ohio 1828. Came to Tama County, remained a short time and went to Benton county. He purchased a part of the land which the town of Belle Plaine now stands. He lived in that section unitl 1857, except one year that he spent in Ohio. He next moved to Johnson county, Iowa. He moved to Harrison county, Iowa in 1866. This information was taken from the Harrison County History Book.

Some of their children were; Margaret BOWEN McGuire-born August 8, 1866 in Benton County, Iowa. She also had a sister Agnes who married a Murphy. Frank BOWEN was also the son of Patrick and Catherine BOWEN. He was born in Benton County February 7,1865. He married Kate E. Smith of Benton County on December 23, 1889

JENKINS-- I am searching for a census record for JAMES & EPHY JENKINS. I know that their first child, Georgia Alice, was born on April 1. 1875 in Vinton, Benton County, Iowa,and their second child, Edith Bell was born on Sept. 25, 1876, also in Vinton, Benton County, Iowa. By 1878, the Jenkins had moved to Ill. Thanks!

My grandfather, Fred L. MCCOY, was born in Vinton, IA on 12/6/1856. His father, Thomas Franklin , migrated there from Mansfield, OH and shortly thereafter moved on to Algona, IA. T.F. was a doctor. It is possible that this family was associated in some way with James ECCLES/ECKLES. Dr. McCoy may also have owned a land grant in Keokuk Co IA.

I am searching for information about Floyd NELSON, b. 15 May 1904, Blairstown, Benton Co., Iowa. His parents were Ferdinand and Mary NELSON. He married Vivian Irene Marie ROFF, b. 21 Mar 1909, Moweaqua, Christian Co., Illinois. Her parents were: Charles W. and Edna Pearl (MANES) ROFF. They had the following children: Floyd Charles (who married Stella Miller); Joan Pearl (who married Gareth EMEL); Robert; Norma Jean (who married David Theodore EVANS); and Mary Lou. If anyone knows anything of Floyd and Vivian and their families, please contact me for my mother-in-law.
