BACH posted by David Bach on Wednesday, November 5, 2003

BACH, Charley F. In the 1920 Census, my grand uncle, Charley F. Bach, age 59, is reported to live in Belle Plaine Township, 2nd Ward, with his wife, Lizzie, age 50, and three children, John, age 18, Elizabeth, age 15, and Charles, age 14. He returned too his birthplace, Clinton, Iowa, in October, 1921 to attend the funeral of the wife of his older brother, John, according to the obituary in the Clinton Herald. I know nothing more about his life and that of his family in Belle Plaine. Can anyone advise of Benton County infomation sources to help me learn about Charles BACH.

FISH, MILLS, MILLS CREEK posted by Kelly Loveless on Sunday, November 16, 2003

MILLS, FISH: I am looking for the location of MILLS CREEK (geographically. I believe it is in Benton Twp., what family was it named after and where does it empty into the Cedar River. Also, I have seen references to Fish's crossing and Fish's landing. I would like to know where this is geographically located in comparison to the old road bed between Shellsburg and Urbana. The old bridge supports are still there and am curious if Fish's crossing was down stream from there. Thanks

ROBBINS posted by Janice Faulconer on Tuesday, January 27, 2004

I am interested in the Walter ROBBINS family who came from Russell Co. Virginia to Benton Co. Iowa. Walter, his wife Rhoda and their 11 children appeared on the 1850 census of Russell Co. Virginia. They then appeared on the 1852 Benton Co. Iowa state census. Rhoda Robbins is listed as a widow on the 1860 census of Benton Co. Iowa with four of her children and a grandchild. Rhoda and her son Charles are listed on the 1870 census of Cass Co. Missouri and the 1880 census of Ellsworth Co. Kansas. I am a descendant and Malinda Robbins the oldest daughter of Walter and Rhoda. Malinda married Thomas Uriah Burke 29 March 1854 in Benton Co. Malinda died 25 Dec 1855, shortly after childbirth and her daughter Mary Malinda Burke was raised by Rhoda Robbins. Thomas Burke joined the Union Army and moved to Missouri and then Texas after the war. I don't know what happened to any of the other children of Walter and Rhoda, but would love to find out more about the family. I would also like to know Rhoda's maiden name.
