My Great Great Grandfather William A. GRIFFIN lived in Benton Co during the 1850, 1860, and 1870 U.S. censuses. During this time his wife was married to Catherine, and they may have moved to Benton Co. from Indiana. In 1871 William GRIFFIN remarried, apparently upon the death of Catherine. He married Amanda BROWN. I have found an Amanda BROWN in the 1856 Iowa State Census, and an Amand BROWN in the 1860 U.S. Census, daughter of Jesse Brown, and living in Benton Co., Cue Township. I suspect William GRIFFIN and Amanda BROWN were married in Benton Co., and would like some marriage record that could possibly verify that Jesse BROWN was Amanda's father. I am also interested in any other information of my GRIFFIN family that might be available.

Was Garrison, Iowa named for Nelson GARRISON son of Isaac GARRISON? He is listed as owning land in sectoion 29 and 32 win Jackon Township near Benton. Perhaps this was the site of the Post Office. Isaac was the brother of my gg grandfather Abraham and both of their families (along with another brother Lewis) arrived in Benton County in 1854 (according to the 1856 census).
