I did some more research. emailed mercy hospital and they have a book on history of mercy and in it it says the nuns had a hospital in chicago, suppored schools, homes for working girls and unwedmothers. woman who emailed me said mercy could very well had one of these homes but they have no records it.
I never did find vonderhaars in ft. madison but did find them in west point iowa. which census did you find them?
looked up beatrice's siblings. leo millmeyer died aug. 1962, agnes married frank meyertholen, arlene was wife of ernest millmeyer and she died 5 feb. 2010 andschmitz lynk funeral home in farmington did her funeral so I would guess they also did her husband's ernest. funeral homes will usually tell you anything and you can email them. they would have names of next of kin so see if you can find family of ernest and arlene millmeyer throught the funeral home.
in 1910 census ben and lena (mary) had agnes 15 yearss old, ernest 12, leo 11 years old, beatrice 8 and virginia 3 years 5 months. I couldn't find virginia. will ask some friends to look for obits in sites they pay for.
