Even scarier: When I was in Ottumwa this past July, EYE was also told at the Courthouse that the Wapello County G. S. had the records and "was filming them". However, when I visited the Society headquarters in person (I've been a member for years), I was told that the *LDS CHURCH* was filming them, it "was taking longer than expected" and that meanwhile they were not available at all. HUH??

I have been meaning to pursue this ever since and just haven't had the time. What's going on here? What's the status of the project? So just WHERE are those irreplaceable original records, physically??? What will happen to the originals after they are filmed? These records are of great interest to me also, so I hope there are some reassuring answers to these questions. I'm also rather "surprised" that County officials would treat these public records in their custody so casually....
