In the fall of 2002 Verda Baird and Wilma Lewis, members of the Jefferson County Genealogical Society, surveyed the 78 cemeteries and known burial sites in Jefferson County. During those visits the two women photographed and recorded the conditions of those sites. Verda Baird has prepared a book of those pictures and has written 6 articles for the local paper, The Fairfield Ledger. Those six articles have been transcribed by Debbie Nash and now may be viewed from this page. To review the article click on the article below.

If you're looking for a Jefferson County gravestone picture, or you have a picture of one to contribute to our files, please visit The Iowa Gravestone Photo Project. We are grateful to Rich Lowe and his son, Rich Lowe, Jr., for programming this Project for us. In addition, photos of gravestones will be linked to the cemetery burial listings.
Another place to search for burial information is "Find a Grave". This is an off-site link but you may use your "back" button to come back to this site.
In the table below are links for each of the Cemeteries ~
The "Map" link takes you to a Township map with the cemetery location(s) drawn in them.
The "Listing" link takes you to a Listing of the cemetery's burials. If a gravestone photo is available, it will be accessible by clicking the person's surname.
The "Picture" link takes you to a photo/information page for the cemetery.
