Page 3, Column 3Mrs. Lydia KNESS, of Polk Township, age 81 years, died Monday, Jan. 9, 1882, and was buried on the home farm in accordance with her request. She was born Sept. 8, 1800 in Northumberland County, Pa. At the age of five years she removed with her parents to near Adelphia, Ross Co., Ohio. In 1815 married Geo. KNESS who died May 2, 1871. In 1837 the family, consisting of 11 children, removed to Sangamon County, Ill., and in the fall of 1842 the family, then numbering 13 children, removed to Jefferson County, Iowa, and settled on the place where the deceased ended her days. She leaves eight children, 35 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. Cumberland Presbyterian church when quite young; afterward Baptist church at Abingdon.
