From: Esther Blake
Hi! I am Esther Blake and I am seeking information about my great great grandmother, Bendelia (Delia, Adelia, Odillia) Nason, Steward/Stewart Benshoff. She moved to Muscatine Co. Iowa about 1857 where my great grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Steward, was born 26 Dec 1857 and lived there until 1865. Her first husband, John Steward/Stewart apparently died before 1863 because on 3 March 1863 she married John Benshoff in Blue Grass, Scott Co., Iowa (this is the only official record that I have found of her time in south eastern Iowa). Benjamin Steward/Stewart and his brother William Steward/Stewart claim to have lived in Cedar Co. with grandparents (name unknown) much of this time. So far I have had no luck finding them in either Muscatine, Scott or Cedar counties on the 1860 census or elsewhere. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: WHITE/CURRIE
Date: Sun, 31 Jan 1999 23:16:03 -0600
From: Donna
We have found our Louisa WHITE born circa 1846 in Devon, England who married John S. Currie born circa 1840 in Connecticut on the 1870 Goshen Twp census. We know they had at least 2 children. Their daughter Julie M. Currie born either 1869 or 1870 is listed on the 1870 census with them. We discovered that another daughter (age unknown), Alla Currie, is buried with her grandparents in High Prarie Cemetary. Her grandparents are Hannah (HARDING) WHITE and John WHITE. They are buried in Lot 13, block A. We know nothing of where they have disappeared to after this census. Can anyone help out? The only reference we have is the census where the name is spelled CURRIE. For all we know this is not the correct spelling at all. We have no record of the marriage either. Any help is appreciated. We do know some information on Louisa's siblings and parents and can provide what we know on request.

We have Louisa WHITE b. circa 1846 in England m. John S. Currie b. circa 1840 in Connecticut. Had daughter: Julie M. Currie b. either 1869 or 1870. Also had a daughter(?) Alla Currie who is buried with her grandparents in High Prarie Cemetary. I don't know how old Alla is. Her grandparents are Hannah (HARDING) WHITE and her husband John WHITE. They are buried in Lot 13, block A. We are tracking down the WHITE side of the family, but know nothing else about Louisa's family. We found them in the Goshen Twp Census in 1870.

From: Connie Fulkerson
Francis DRAKE I would like to know if he married Hannah CROSS in Muscatine County and when. Story in Muscatine Journal dated May 6, 1909 for Levi Cross, Jr., said he died "at the home of his sister Mrs. Francis Drake, 214 Clinton street" (Muscatine). If Francis married Hannah, when? Did they have children? Was this her second marriage? Also in this announcement of his death, it said Levi Cross, Jr. had a daughter in Kansas, but didn't give her name. I would like to know it. Was there an official obituary in the paper for Levi Cross, Jr. after the May 6, 1909 article? Thanks for your assistance in this matter. Any help would be much appreciated.

From: Connie Fulkerson
Looking for more information on Michael PRICE, b. abt 1811 in Virgnia, d. March 9, 1866 in Muscatine County, Iowa (Seventy-Six Township) m to Rachel Foster They came to Muscatine County in 1848. He served in the Iowa legislature about 1860. They had 10 children. Only one was living in 1911 - Rachel Ellen Price - who married William H. Neil. Any idea where Michael Price is buried? Michael's sister was Elizabeth Price (my gggg grandmother) who married 1) James Chettam/Cheatham and 2) Levi Cross. She and Levi were long-time Muscatine County residence. I figured there is probably more information on Michael than on Elizabeth. I would especially like to find out who their parents were. I believe they migrated from Greenbrier County, Va., to Pike County, Ohio, to Muscatine County, Iowa. Also, where might I find the church records of the Brick United Brethren Church mentioned in several of the obits I have found (late 1800s)? Several references to the cemetery being the churchyard, leads me to believe what is now the Cranston Cemetery was the Brick U.B. churchyard. Am I on the right track? I'd like to locate the church records so I can write to the appropriate place for information on my ancestors.

I understand there's a family plot for LINDLEYs in Muscatine, Iowa. Joseph William, his wife Emma (MEYERHOLZ) and at least one son, Henry Clay Lindley and his wife Vina (WILSON) and their daughter, Lois Emma, are buried there. Possibly also buried there would be their son Frankie, who died at age 15. The dates I have are JOSEPH WILLIAM b. Dec. 1856 *or* Dec. 27, 1859 d. 1931 Muscatine Iowa EMMA b. 24 Oct. 1860 *or* Oct. 1857 Wapello d. Oct. 20, 1928 Muscatine Iowa. I'm interested in the information I can find on Joseph especially, as well as any other family members buried there who I may not have mentioned, either LINDLEY or MEYERHOLZ or others. Thank you for any help you can give me. I can trace Meyerholz back but the Lindley segment has a three-generation void, at least, back from Joseph. Any other suggestions for assistance/research in the Muscatine area or the Davenport (Scott) Cty. area? I don't even have parents' or siblings' names to go on. Looking for anyone with more information about John PEIFER, age 54, who was living with Benjamin (age 27) & Ellen KERLAND in the 1860 census of Montpelier Twp, Muscatine County. Census records note Pennsylvania as the birthplace of both John Peifer and Benjamin Kerland. Anyone know where in PA? Was this John Peifer my great, great grandfather, son of John & Elizabeth (Miller) Peifer, who left Northumberland County PA after the 1850 census? Thanks!
