I am new to this genealogy stuff, and have just subscribed recently. Please be careful cooking, cant afford for anything to burn. I am a new arrival to Daytona Florida, and we have fires everywhere. Do be careful. Do you do research for people?? I am tying to get info on a Christian Houser, who wilved in Muscatine Iowa from 1860 til his death ?. His family lived there at least til 1909 or a little later. Would you see what you can find on the Christian and Amelia Houser while in Muscatine. Are there any Historical societies that I can write to there? Where is Muscatine anyway, it use to be Bloomington, but the named was changed to avoid confusion with Bloomington Illinois. Any help would be appreciated. Pat

I'm new to the list but have been researching Muscatine & Cedar county records for awhile. Am seeking any info on William and Mary Jane Lambert Morgan who lived in both Cedar & Muscatine counties between 1857-1875. Mary Jane was b1829 d1864 & buried in Timberlake Cemetery near Atalissa. Her mother Elizabeth Neely Lambert was b1807 d1868 & also buried in Timberlake Cemetery. Elizabeth's mother Jane Wamsley Neely Lambert was b1785 d 1862 in Muscatine County. Are there any papers other than the Muscatine one which might have obituaries of these women who all died in the 1860s near Atalissa? Haven't yet found the burial place of Jane Lambert. Would like to hear from anyone working on these surnames. Thanks! Adele Bowden

Anyone come across the LORENZEN surname in your "travels"? I've found Frederick Hans LORENZEN's birth certificate, however, no other info on the family. Census info shows the family is Lutheran and of German descent (from Schleswig-Holstein area); I'm running out of ideas to search on the web--travel to Iowa isn't possible right now. Thanks, Anne

I have been led to believe by some family members that Elmer Ellsworth Coss b. 5-30-1867 d. 2-24-1939 & wife, Ida Mae Stauffer Coss b. 3-16-1872 d. 8-24-1949 were buried there. These were my g-grandparents. Am hoping that other members of either family might also be buried there. Could you please tell me if that is the case? Thanks for your time! Pamela Roper

Thomas Francis Sherry and Mary Frances McAvoy (or McEvoy) were married in Muscatine, Iowa, on January 17, 1882. I'm trying to find out Mary's parents, siblings, anything. I have the name of Thomas' father; it is John Sherry. His mother is Mary Fox Sherry. I cannot trace them back any farther. One or both may have died and been buried in Muscatine; I'm sure John lived there. Bertie Wells

Subject: Burial Grounds for Johann Thomsen
From: marianj@pionet.net
Date: Mon Jun 15 23:49:32 1998
I have been looking for the burial plot of my Great Grandfather. His name was Johann Thomsen. He was married to Dorothea Frank and she is buried in cemetary in Dewitt, Ia in 1863(?).He is not listed as being buried next to her. I know they had several children, Mrs. Louise DeMean,William(Bill) Thomsen who I believed was an auctioneer in Muscantine for quite a few years. They had at least one more daughter and I think her name was Mary. Great Grandfather Thomsen might have also gone by the name of Hans. He at one time also lived in Scott County but in later years was not able to care for himself so I surmise that he lived with his children. If there is any charge in looking this up please advise.I have tried every method I know how and just now run across this on the internet. Thank you. Sincerely, Marian E. Johnson

. I'm still in search of the parents of Evangeline and Charlotte Cheatham. There's a strong possibility they are JAMES S. CHETTANS & MINERVA HOSIER, who were married 1 Oct. 1854 in Muscatine Co. Evangeline was born in 1855 and Charlotte 1858 according to the 1860 census. However, in 1860 Evangeline was living with William and Nancy Cross Fulmer; Charlotte was living with Levi and Elizabeth Cheatham Cross, who I believe were the girls' grandparents. Both girls were living with the Cross family in 1870. I don't know what happened to the girls' parents, but they either died or left the county between 1858 and 1860. Family members have said the girls were orphans. I think the 1856 Iowa census would help solve this mystery, but I haven'tbeen able to read it, as I was told it is not available through interlibraryloan. I'm hoping James Chettans was Elizabeth's son by a first marriage, butI haven't found indication of that yet. If he was born in Ohio or Virginia, that would narrow it down, as Elizabeth was born in Greenbriar County, Va.(now W.Va.) There is a listing for Levi Cross in the History of Muscatine County, which offers some good information. If you can give me any idea of other good sources for Muscatine County I can check, I'd appreciate it. The Cross family lived in Seventy Six Township. Connie Fulkerson Manhattan, KS

I would like to submit a name I have been researching in Muscatine County,Gerischer. The first Gerischer to settle in Muscatine County was TheodoreGerischer. He was born in Germany. Served in the Civil War, Co. K, 15thIll. Inf. He was my great-great grandfather. His wife was Wilhelmina C. She was born in the year 1845. My great grandfather Herman T. Gerischer was born in Muscatine and moved to Devils Lake, N.D. From there the family moved to Minnesota. Many of my great grandfather's sibilings stayed in the area. I am interested in locating any info about my family name. I visited Muscatine several years ago and was surprised to see the family name as a street name in the Greenwood Cemetery. I am interested in knowing, if there is record, how the street names were selected. Up till the time I visited Muscatine I had never seen my family name in print. You can imagine my surprise when I saw the "Gerischer" street sign! My parents divorced right after I was born and I was not raised around my dad's family. I plan on a return trip to Muscatine in March. Is it possible for you to give me the days and hours the library is opened for research? I appreciated your help. Thanks........

I'm looking for any records pertaining to my LEONARD ancestors. Particularly,I'd like to obtain the cemetery record for my ggggrandfather, Zenas Leonard, who died February 6, 1867 and is buried in Melpine Cemetery.

Also, I'm seeking a marriage certificate for a Joshua Leonard and an EllenAdy. They were married in 1858 in Muscatine. Joshua was my gguncle.

If you run across anything for a John W. Leonard (also Zenas' son & mygggrandfather), who married a Mary Fasker or a George Francis "Frank" Leonard(John's son & my ggrandfather), will you let me know? I'm trying to documentour family's link to James Chilton, who was a Mayflower passenger.

I'd like to send a donation to support this wonderful WEB page. Will you letme know where I can send it? Thank you sooooo much.
