Calvin J. Hickman
Born: November 9, 1822 in Surrey Co., North Carolina Obituary of Calvin HickmanCalvin J. Hickman, one of the best-known citizens of Sherman Township, died at his home near Metz last Sunday morning, after an illness of several months. His age was 79 years. Mr. Hickman came to this county and settled in Sherman Township early in the sixties. Everybody knew him as Uncle Cal Hickman. In many ways he was very eccentric; but, with all, he was a good man, a kind husband and father and an honorable citizen, who will be greatly missed in the community where he has so long resided. Besides his aged companion he leaves five children: Howard Hickman, Randolph County, Ind.; Grant and Mansfield Hickman and Mrs. Annie Cochrane of this county; and Mrs. Retta Darling of this city, all of whom were with their father in his final illness. The funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon and the interment was in the Metz Cemetery. ~ The Newton Record, Thursday, February 6, 1902, Page 8, Column 3. __________Obituary: Calvin J.
