Private Roy Hickman, who Died of Pneumonia,
in France October 21, was One of
Newton's Best Young Men

The home of Mrs. Sarah Hickman was saddened yesterday when the news that her son, Private Roy Hickman, member of Battery D. 337th Field artillery of the 88th division, had passed away of pneumonia, reached here from the war department at Washington, D. C. The widowed mother had been so willing that her son do all that he possibly could do in this world war and when the armistice terms were signed on Monday, she was happy in the anticipation of her son's return home. Private Roy Hickman was one of Newton's best young me. He was graduated form the local high school in the class of 1914 and in 1916 he attended the Capitol City Commercial college at Des Moines, graduating from there in 1917. Until the time he entered the service of Uncle Sam he was employed in the office of the Parson's company.

Roy Hickman was born in Newton, January 23, 1895. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Sarah Hickman and three brothers, Delphia, Charles and Glen. He entered the service May 18, 1918 and he had been in France since August 1918. He died of pneumonia in France October 21. ~ The Newton Daily News, November 14, 1918.
