Zimri Neely Hickman

Zimri Neely Hickman died at his home in this city at 3:30 this morning. His death is a great shock to his family and friends, being very unexpected.

Mr. Hickman, son of Samuel and Margery Hickman, was born about three miles west of this city Dec. 1st, 1855, and lived in this county all his life, with the exception of three years which he spend near Halsey, Neb., and from where he returned about a year ago.

He was married to Sarah Marshall March 6, 1889 and to them were born five children; Delpha is the oldest and is fourteen years of age. The next daughter, Valura Maude, who is now deceased. Then came Roy, Charley and Glenn, the latter only fourteen months old. So it will be seen that the sorrowing wife is left with great cares to burden her.

Neely, as he was called, was not a professed Christian, but was known as a firm believer in the Christian religion and was a man of splendid habits. He was kind hearted to an unusual degree and as a member of the family exerted an influence for the right.

Two brothers and two sisters survive him. They are E. M. Hickman of Seward, Neb., Mrs. Louisa Whitmore of Muscatine, Mrs. G. W. Hickman, Jr., of this city and A. M. Hickman of Halsey, Neb., the latter two being with him at the time of death.

The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock sharp in the M. E. Church, Rev. G. M. Tuttle conducting the services. ~ The Newton Daily Herald, Saturday, April 4, 1903, Page 1, Column 3
