Pneumonia Causes Death

B. F. Hickman died at the home of sister-in-law, [acutally his aunt] Mrs. C. J. Hickman, of Metz, Thursday afternoon at 3:15 o'clock. The funeral will be held from the Metz school house tomorrow, Sunday, at 2:30 o'clock. The interment will be in the Metz cemetery.

Mr. Hickman had been sick with pneumonia about two weeks.

Last October he received a wound on the head by being struck while crossing the Rock Island track, by a beam that was fastened to a flat car. For this he received $150 as settlement on February 27, 1906.

After the accident Mr. Hickman spent a month or two with relatives in Nebraska, and when he returned home, he said he felt that he was as well as he had ever been. ~ The Newton Daily News, March 17, 1906.

Died of Pneumonia

Benjamin F. Hickman, after an illness with pneumonia for about two weeks, died last Thursday afternoon, Mrch 15th, at the home of his aunt, Mrs. Cal. J. Hickman in Metz.

It will be remembered that Mr. Hickman was the victim of a strange accident about five months ago. While standing at the railroad crrossing in Metz, a ream reaching out from a car belonging to a work train on the Newton & Northwestern, struck him on the head, inflicting a very painful wound. but fortunately not a dangerous one.

Deceased was about forty-two years old and a brother of Mrs. Ed. Phillips of this city. The funeral was from the Metz school house at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon and the interment was in the Metz cemetery. Rev. R. F. Chambers of this city conducted the funeral service. ~ March 1906, unknown newspaper.
