Mrs. Morris Grant (Maggie A.) Hickman, 79, a resident of
Orange County, Calif., since 1973 and longtime resident of
Jasper County, died Sunday, Jan. 15, in Orange, Calif.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20,
at the Wallace Pence Funeral Home.
Dr. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the First United
Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in
the Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m.
Thursday; Jan. 19.
Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m.
Thursday at the funeral home.
Survivors are her husband [sic-mistake or did she remarry?]; and a sister, Edith Vance
of Tempe, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jan.
7, 1972, three brothers and a sister.
Mrs. Hickman was a member of the First United Methodist
Church and the Iowa Genealogical Society.
The daughter of Gerritt V. and Mary C. Bailey Akins, she
was born Sept. 30, 1904 in Jasper County. She was married

Morris Hickman Dies Today;
Services Monday
Morris Grant Hickman, 65, of 303 E. 16th St. N., Apt. No.
1, a resident of Newton since August, 1970, died today at
the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the
Toland-Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. Herold Harryman associate pastor of the First
United Methodist Church, will conduct the services. Burial
will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m.
Saturday.
Survivors are his wife, Maggie; a son, Harold Hickman of
Orange, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. LeRoy (Belva) Goeke of
Newton and Mrs. Charley (Vaneta) Rutherford of Grinnell; and
a nephew, Frank Krohn of Prairie City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters,
Mrs. Florence Krohn of Colfax, Mrs.
Gladys Horn of Davenport and Mrs. Steve (Mamie)
Herrington of Newton; and a brother Lawrence of Colfax.
Mr. Hickman had been employed as a automobile
mechanic.
The son of Ulysses S. Grant and Dora Ellen Hurst Hickman,
he was born Aug. 20, 1906 southeast of Colfax in Mound
Prairie Township.
He was married to Maggie Akins Sept. 29, 1926 in
Newton.
Mr. Hickman resided in Des Moines from 1941 until coming
