A Young Man Stricken
While he had not been in good health for some time, the death of Lawrence Hickman last Monday was something of a shock to his friends. For a young man to be called in the very prime of his young manhood with a long and useful life before him is always to be deplored.
Lawrence Hickman, son of Grant and Dora Hickman was born at LeGrange, Laramie Co., Wyoming, September 28, 1889, and departed this life March 6, 1916, at the home of his parents, in Mound Prairie township, being 26 years, 6 months and 6 days old at the time of his death.
Lawrence was a young man of exemplary habits, always ready to give a helping hand wherever needed, and will be greatly missed in the large circle of friends and acquaintances as well as in his home.
He leaves to mourn his departure a father, mother, five sisters, one brother, his aged grandmothers and a number of uncles, aunts and cousins.
The funeral services were held at the home conducted by Rev. Brown, of the Methodist church. The music was furnished by a quartet made up of Messrs. B. F. Van Dyke and D. T. Jones and Mesdames John Williams and Frank Regner. Interment at the Metz cemetery. ~ The Colfax Clipper, March 9, 1916.

Gladys Horn, 75, Former Jasper Resident Dies
Mrs. Henry (Gladys Hickman) Horn; 75, Davenport, former resident of Jasper County, died Thursday at St. Luke's Hospital in Davenport.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Chapel. The Rev. Harold Harryman, associate minister of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Saturday.
Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. LeRoy (Belva) Goeke and Mrs. Steve (Mayme) Harrington, both of Newton, and Mrs. Charlie (Venta) Rutherford of Grinnell, a brother, Morris Hickman of Des Moines, and two nephews, Frank Krohn of Prairie City and Harold Hickman of Orange, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister and a brother.
The daughter of Grant and Dora Hurst Hickman, she was born March 30, 1894, at Colfax and resided in the Colfax and Newton areas until 1931.
