What was added in 2011?


December 19, 2011:  Added vintage photo of Atlantic Golf and Country Club and More Historic Photos of Atlantic, containing 7 new vintage scenes. Uploading of gravestone photos from Lorah Cemetery is now complete except for three that must be retaken (Mary G. Harris, Amelia Gingery Lambert and Tabetha Struthers). Uploading of gravestone photos from Highland Cemetery is still in progress.

December 17, 2011:  Added vintage photos of Atlantic churches, all from vintage postcards, and a fourth vintage photo of the railroad depot at Atlantic.

November 24, 2011:  Added the first portion of Banks and Bankers Plate 2 from the 1904 Exposition Souvenir Album, as well as a Challenge Flour Ad.

November 17, 2011:  Added transcriptions of 2 more biographies (W. Baughman and J. Baxter) from the 1906 Compendium of History and Biography.  Added pages for Highland Cemetery and Lorah Cemetery  Updated the Cemeteries Near Cass Co. page to add Guthrie County and additional specific cemetery names.

November 9, 2011:  Added link to Iowa History Project biography of Edwin Elijah Perkins, the inventor of Kool-Aid. Edwin Perkins was born in Lewis, Cass county, Iowa.

November 7, 2011:  Added transcription of 1937 Anita High School Commencement Program.

November 2, 2011:  Added transcriptions of Greeting and Banks and Bankers Plate 1 from the 1904 Exposition Souvenir Album, as well as an Iowa Trust and Savings Ad.

October 31, 2011:  Added vintage photos of the James F. Dwigans Family. Added transcription of the James F. Dwigans biography from the 1884 History of Cass County, Iowa. Also added obituaries for James F. Dwigans and John C. Elliott to the Obituary Board.

October 15, 2011:  Added a link from the Cass County Soldier's Monument page to the Smithsonian Art Collections Center's online records of the works of Edward A. Pryor, sculptor of the Cass County Soldier's Monument.

October 11, 2011:  Added transcriptions of 4 more biographies (Baughman, Bagshaw, Bailey and Battersby) from the 1906 Compendium of History and Biography.  Also added North Side Anita Main Street, a vintage Anita street scene.

October 8, 2011:  Added a photo of the exterior of the Atlantic Canning Factory circa 1908.

October 2, 2011:  Added transcriptions of 5 more biographies (Anderson, Anstey, Arnold, Blakeslee and Blakeslee) from the 1906 Compendium of History and Biography.

September 30, 2011: Added transcriptions of 4 more biographies (Allen, Alexander, Brewer, and Childs) from the 1906 Compendium of History and Biography. Also added photos from Christine Andersen's 1913 Nurse's Training at Atlantic Hospital and her stay at Jones Hospital in Lewis.

September 27, 2011:  Reorganized and reformatted the History and Maps sections, adding a Maps Main Page and a History Main Page. Also added transcriptions of 5 more biographies (Adams, Albert, Worthington, Wright and Wright) from the 1906 Compendium of History and Biography.

September 26, 2011:  Added 3 biographies (Yarger, Young, and Ziegler) transcribed from the 1906 Compendium of History and Biography. Also added an Index to Obituaries on Ancestry's Cass Co. Message Board that was created by a Cass County researcher and generously shared with Cass County IaGenweb.

September 21, 2011:  Added page with links to Area Funeral Homes & Newspapers that have recent obituaries online.

September 11, 2011:  Addeded a transcription of one page from the 1870 Marriage License Register, containing 14 marriages dated Nov. 9, 1870 through Dec. 23, 1870.

September 5, 2011:  Updated biographical index for 1906 Compendium of History and Biography of Cass County, Iowa to add surnames H-P.

September 4, 2011:  Updated biographical index for 1906 Compendium of History and Biography of Cass County, Iowa to add surnames C-G and R-T.

September 3, 2011:  Added biographical index for 1906 Compendium of History and Biography of Cass County, Iowa. Index for surnames A-B and U-Z is now online. C thru T will be coming soon.

September 1, 2011:  Updated 1904 Souvenir Album section to provide a full list of contents. Added photos of Atlantic Canning Factory and Rock Island Depot from the final page of the album.

August 16, 2011:  Added vintage Anita Street Scene photo.

May 13, 2011:  Added William Lowe Family photos. Also added photo of Marion W. and Ida Spry, a photo of Marah Whited, and a photo of the Miller Family.

March 18, 2011:  Added death record information for Manoah P. Harris, transcribed from his death certificate. Also added vintage photos of Emily Carmichael Harris, wife of Manoah, to the Family Photos section.

March 4-7, 2011:  Reorganized, reformatted and updated the Cemetery pages. Added link to a list of Cass County cemeteries with their addresses and directions on the Cass County Board of Supervisor's webpage [www.casscountyiowa.us/cemeteries.htm].

March 2, 2011:  Added vintage photo postcard of the Griswold Central Block. Added a vintage postcard of the second Atlantic Hospital building to the Atlantic Hospital photo page. Also added a vintage photo postcard of the Rock Island Depot to the Atlantic Railroad Depot and Yards page.

February 25, 2011:  Updated the Anita, Cumberland, Griswold, Lewis and Massena Public Library entries on the Local Resources page to add links to their respective web pages.

February 18, 2011:  Added 1856 Cass County Voters by Township transcribed from the 1877 History of Cass County by Lafe Young.

February 15, 2011:  Added a description of Cass County transcribed from the 1865 Iowa State Gazetteer. Also did some minor reformatting of the church record and historical newspaper pages and updated the Cass County Genealogical Society page with the 2011 officers.

February 14, 2011:  Added transcriptions of the Anita Directory and Lewis Directory from the 1877 History of Cass County by Lafe Young. Also did some minor updates to the historical "What's New" pages.

February 12, 2011:  Added transcription of Military History from the 1877 History of Cass County by Lafe Young. This article describes Cass County's contributions in the Civil War.

February 8, 2011:  Added transcription of 1882 Cass County Marriage Records, formatted as a Grooms' Index and a Brides' Index,

February 7, 2011:  Added transcriptions of additional sections from the 1901 Atlantic High School Scraps yearbook, including In Memoriam, Junior Reception, Athletics, Latin and German Translations, What Not to Tell, Outline of Orations, and Autographs. Also added a vintage photo of twins Lyman and Lyma Baird, age 2, and the 1929 nursing school graduation photo of Lyma Baird to the Family Photos section.

February 4, 2011:  Added transcription of the history of the Cass County Soldiers' Monument, including lists of Spanish-American War Veterans and Civil War Veterans from Cass County. Added transcription of Cass County Men Who Won the Distinguished Service Cross in World War I. Also added transcription of Cass County's "Gold Star Boys", Cass County soldiers who died in World War I.

February 3, 2011:  Added transcription of the Senior Class officers and history, Junior Class officers and history, Sophomore Class and history, and Freshman Class and history from the 1901 Atlantic High School Scraps yearbook.

February 1, 2011:  Added transcription and photo of the Senior Class and the Junior Class; also photos of the Board of Education President, Teachers, and Annual Board from the 1901 Atlantic High School Scraps yearbook.

January 31, 2011:  Added transcriptions of the Board of Education, Teachers, and Annual Board from the 1901 Atlantic High School Scraps yearbook.
