     The school board met Saturday evening and awarded the contracts for building, in part, the new public school building as follows: Excavating and grading, Gordineer & Childres, for $120; Stone work, Swarengen & Co., the company being John Monnett and David Farron of Keosaqua, at $2.36 a perch. Brick on the ground, W R Haines at $6.74 a thousand. The building will be 74x54, with two wings, each 12x24. Basement seven feet in the clear, first and second stories, each twelve feet in the clear; third story fourteen feet in the clear. The building to be surmounted by a cupola and spire, and covered with a metalic roof. Brick partition from bottom to basement to top of building, dividing each floor into four rooms, except on the 3rd floor where there will be a commodious assembly room. The walls will be 50 feet high. The water table is to be cut of limestone. Also the caps and sills of windows and doors. The building will be finished in the best style, with the necessary closets and recitation-rooms, at a cost of about $30,000.
