     Persons having coins or other articles they wish to have deposited in the crypt of the corner stone of the Normal Institute building, will leave them with the Noble grand, J M Brown.

The Normal term of this institution will commence in the NW public school building of Bloomfield, on the 3rd Monday of July, 1874 and continue 6 weeks. Pupils of both sexes admitted. Tuition, $5.00 in advance.

     May 11, Bloomfield Lodge No 23, Odd Fellows at 2 PM, clothed in appropriate regalia, and preceded by the Bloomfield Silver Cornet Band proceed to the site of the building and lay the cornerstone with suitable ceremonies. The Odd Fellows included Lodges from Troy, Floris, Milton, Stilesville, West Grove and Ottumwa.

     Mr Dodge Swearingens infant daughter, aged 8 months met with a horrible accident last Thursday evening at 6 1/2 o'clock, which resulted fatally. She was seated at the supper table, her parents happening to be absent at the moment, and by some means got hold of the tea-pot, and emptied the contents, scalding herself to death.

     Bro Trueblood, informs us that young man that has been clerking for Mr Harmon of Drakeville for several months past was taken violently ill, and died in about 3 hours. We were unable to learn his name.

     The hotel at Belknap burned Saturday, and the depot is all that is left.

      Wesley Stark, son of Greenup, North of Belknap, had both bones of his left arm broken by being kicked by a horse.
