Cemeteries of Jackson County
Jackson County has some really pretty cemeteries. There is a lot of information available. We have been given permission to add information to our site from the books "Stone Cities" by Don Wentworth. What a wonderful gift!
Jackson county has a wonderful group of people who volunteer on the Jackson County Pioneer Cemetery Commission. I truly hope that if you get a chance to volunteer or help them out in some way, that you do so early and often!
Many of the gravestones have been photographed and are on our Gravestone Photo Project pages. There are also many obituaries available on our Obituaries message board and, of course, we hope to add more and invite you to add information as well.
Cemeteries marked with an asterisk (*) are pioneer cemeteries. A pioneer cemetery in Iowa is one that has had 12 or fewer burials in the past 50 years. Cemeteries marked with two asterisk (**) are ones I believe to be pioneer cemeteries but I still have to verify that information. The Jackson County Pioneer Cemetery Commission estimates that, of the 100+ cemeteries in Jackson County, more than 88 can be classified as pioneer cemeteries.
