That would be me Sharon. It's been a while since I've participated on this site having been sick.

What I can tell you is that David D. Crane married Jones County 1860 to Martha J. Porter. That in 1860 and 1870 they were living in Greenfield, Jones Co., IA and by 1880 David was in Palestine, Story Co., IA listed as D.D. Crain with children but no wife with them. Maybe she was ill or had died by then even though it has him as 'M' married rather than 'D' Divorced or 'Wd' Widowed.

I'll keep looking for his parents. Her family lived near them in the 1860 census.

One lead could be a Roswell Crane and wife Perlina listed in 1860 Anamosa, Jones Co., IA census. He was born in NY and her in VT and old enough to be his parents (both age 53) - another son named LeRoy age 20 still living with them but born in MI instead of NY. You know how census can be off by dates and places :-)
