According to the Indiana State Library Genealogy Database for Indiana marriages before 1850, James W. Ireland and Maria Lucas were married on 4-19-1847. This would indicate that both Mahala (b. March 18, 1848) and Harmon Lucas would have been their first two children. Interestingly, these children were named after James and Maria’s former spouses. Further, there was an Administrator’s Notice published on February 25, 1847 for the estate of “Harmon R. Lucas, late of Tippecanoe county, Ind., dec’d.” The administrator of the estate was Wm. Mansfield.
