Hi,
Listed in several places online:
"MISCELLANEOUS SEWARD COUNTY COURT RECORDS
Certificate from Jones County, Iowa, dated March 7, 1873, stating that James W. Ireland had been admitted to the bar from another state, April 7, 1856."

From this information, it seems James Wood Ireland was in Nebraska by March of 1873. And since Maggie and Lewis [young couple with a small child--Clarence Floyd] left Jones County, Iowa at the same time and ended up in the same place as James [Mariah-assuming], it is a small leap to think they might have moved there together.
As you probably know, there were two fires in Olin, Jones County, Iowa, thereby destroying a lot of historical information. I'm not sure what newspapers survived before 1900.
D.K.
