Thank you for the information. Since William Basford's occupation in that census was coal mining, I wonder if he might have been fatally injured in this accident? Was there any mine accident within that time frame? Or if they were divorced before Belle married Samuel Campbell, would there be such a record showing that fact? I still do not know whether death or divorce ended the relationship between William Basford and Belle. What happened to child #6 in that list of births?

The list of children born to Samuel and Belle Campbell made sense to me (except child #8)because (1) Samuel Campbell had married Isabell Nancy Parks Basford on October 26, 1882, and (2)Emma Elizabeth (Campbell) Quinn Robertson was the first child of that marriage being born on Sept. 16, 1883 (as your list of records shows). But the interesting thing about the child #8 you wrote about... the date of birth is in conflict with that of my great-grandmother, Blanche Ann (Campbell) Stevens Van Cleave, who as her death record shows was born at Brighton, Iowa (in Washington County) on March 31, 1889. Her death certificate, cemetery record and obituary notice all showed her date of birth as March 31, 1889. The list of her parents on the death certificate was Samuel Campbell and Nancy Parks.

Samuel Campbell's brother, William P. Campbell, was known to have lived in Brookville so I wonder if it's possible for the mix up to identify child #8 as Samuel's child rather than William's? When it could actually be William's child?

Anything you find on William Basford would be a big help!
