In Response To: Welsh Family in Hilton (Christine Mitchell)

i am looking at my family history and have found an alexander welsh (alex hermann welsh or alexander harry welsh) as my great grandfather who arrived in the then colony of south australia from america about 1888.

could this be a relative?

he arrived by ship into adelaide and was married in port pierie. his son jack baden cameron welsh ( my grandfather) was born in bendigo in victoria in 1900 and shortly after that alex vanished - i can not find him at all.

after he left, my great grandmother remarried charles atkins and produced two daughters. my grandfather changed his name from welsh to atkins when this happened and then left home to move to melbourne to become a jockey.

there is a possibility alex welsh came to australia from america for the goldrush and left the goldfields empty handed and returned to america about 1905 to 1912.

any thoughts?
