Glen,
Back from my travels unfortunately I didn't have time to look into our little problem, in fact I had very little time at all for any of my family history but I now have a better idea of just how much time I need to spend over there for research.

I've come across a Terrance Brooks on genesreunited whose family tree also includes Alexander and Elizabeth and he has listed Alexander's parents as a John Welsh and Ann MacLauchlin with Alexander born 1829 in Perth. I've emailed him asking him how he established the link so am now just waiting for a response - we may have an answer to this yet. I've also given him the link to this message board.

Oh also, just to keep the record correct, the photo I sent you - the people I listed as Tibi Welsh and Catherine McGivern should be switched. My cousin had another photo of Catherine McGivern so we think we've got it right now.
