Christine, I have spent some time trying to relate the Welsh family to the Rileys in Johnson and Iowa Counties. My welsh, Caroline, Married Solomon Riley in Ohio and moved to Johnson County abt. 1851. I found no relationship with your Welch family.
However I did find some information on your side of the family, Agnes (b. 1851) did marry Stephen Sherlock (b. 1846) in 1871. (all dates are approximate) They had numerous children; Allinah (b. 1875), Henry (b. 1876), Josephine (b. 1878), Walter (b. 1885), Orrin (b. 1886), Violet (b. 1889), Mary (b. 1891) and Mabel (b. 1894).
It appears that Alexander (b. either 1819 or 1823) immigrated to Iowa sometime after 1855 since his daughter, Jane, was born in Scotland in 1855. Alexander's wife, Elizabeth, B. 1858 in Scotland)maiden name was Fleming as you stated. In 1870 the family Jane, William (b.1863) and Edward (b. 1889) were living in Hilton Township, Iowa County, Iowa.
You may have all this information. If not I hope it helps.
Best,
Clyde Frank
