My anc. left for the gold rush from Colesburg, Delaware Co. which is just across the line from Clayton County. In A History of Delaware Co., Ia. 1834-1934 by Belle Bailey page 132-135 she tells about Missouri Dickson, Horace Mallory, Roland Aubrey, Joel Bailey, Lewis Crosier, Elder Blanchard, Wm. Robinson, Wm. Whiteside, Wm. Phillips, and others going to the Gold Rush. My Mallory anc. had gold ring bands made from the gold he found also. It was said "It took 6 mo. to the day to go from Iowa to the Gold Rush with a team of oxen". My anc.s went to Gold Run & Dutch Flatt, Placer Co. Calif. & Red Dog (now ghost town) Nevada Co. Calif. You might check this area. Later they followed the gold rush to Madison Co. Montana.
