McGregor men to CA goldfields

Looking for information on an expedition to the California goldfields by a group of men from McGregor, Clayton County, Iowa in the spring of 1852. Is there more information on this event? Old newspaper articles, journals, recollections, etc? So far I have identified participants John G. Bass and George Bass, and possible participants Leonard Ayers and John Devlin. Who organized this group? How many men went? What happened to their wives and children who were left behind? Please post any information you might have. Thanks!
