2012 Tingley Alumni Banquet
The Tingley high school alumni banquet was held Saturday May 26, 2012, at the Tingley community building. Judy JOBE
POTTORFF from the class of 1958 had chosen the theme, "Set Sail Into Summer," and 51 showed up to enjoy the colorful
summertime decorations. At each place was a shiny penny attached to the poem, "The Copper Coin," by Susan BERGER. A
gazing ball and holder was given to Doris JOHNSON BEEN for printing the mailing labels, the themed programs and
invitations. Cleone OVERHOLTZER HOSFIELD, Judy JOBE POTTORFF, Sue RICHARDS and Jenny OVERHOLTZER TULL mailed the
invitations. Visiting outside at the shelter house started at 5 p.m. The Tingley UMW provided a buffet meal at 6 p.m.
Larry GILES from the class of 1958 welcomed everyone and introduced Al IBBOTSON who sang "The Star Spangled Banner."
Janet Pearl LONGCOY FENTON, class of 1958, gave the invocation. Larry conducted the business meeting with Sue reading
the 2011 minutes and Cleone giving Mary Sue PRITCHARD McINTOSH'S treasury report with a balance of $765.63 for 2011.
The 2012 banquet will be held on May 25 with Sue RICHARDS serving as chairman. Jenny was elected as alumni secretary and
Mary Sue will continue as treasurer. A discussion was held about the cost and continuing to mail invitations, since
they had such a small attendance this year. Sending emails and putting in paper with both Mary Sue and Sue available to
receive reservations was the decision by the group. A girls' trio from Mount Ayr Community high school provided the
evening entertainment with Sarah CAMPBELL ending with the song "At Last." Larry read the roll call of classes. Those
graduates in attendance marking special anniversary years were 70 years - Pauline HILLEBRAN MURPHY; 65 years - Margaret
TROXELL HULL and Joyce OVERHOLTZER SCOTT; 60 years - Doris JOHNSON BEEN and John OVERHOLTZER; 55 years - Dean EIGHME,
Donald DUKES and Sue RICHARDS; 40 years- Rita IBBOTSON BERAN, and 10 years- Kelsey ALLEN DEEMER. Jenny had a letter
from Dietrich GESCHKE, class of 1955, telling of his experiences which he has put in book form. Several alumni recalled
memories of the German displaced family brought to Tingley after WWII by Claire and Jean HENDERSON. Joyce SCOTT, Mike
BEEN, Axel LARSON and John OVERHOLTZER were in top form telling jokes. Judy, Larry and Janet Pearl thanked everyone for
being a part of their memory trip to the 2012 alumni banquet.
