ABOUT US
Photo Above: Eighme No. 9 rural Tingley schoolhouse. My grandfather, Roger MORRISON, was the sole pupil in attendence when the school closed January 20, 1940. The schoolhouse sits just over a mile from my family's century farm.
My name is Tony Mercer.
I have lived in Ringgold County my entire life. My great grandparents are George and Helen Iola (GARLAND) FERGUSON, Herschel and Macelle (STEINKAMP) MORRISON, Ted and Verna (RAINS) HUFF, Clarence and Lela (JOHNSON) MERCER. My grandparents are Roger and Donna (FERGUSON) MORRISON, Donald and Janet (HUFF) MERCER.
I graduated from Mount Ayr Community High School with the Class of 2002, and afterward I
attended Southwestern Community College, obtaining my A.A. (farm studies) in 2004. I have worked for various farmers in the area before becoming a rural mail carrier in 2008 and then making full time in 2010.
In 2013 I had the opportunity to buy my family's Century Farm south of Tingley after the passing of my grandmother. This farm has been in my family since 1897. I grow corn, soybeans, hay and raise cattle, sheep, and chickens with the help of my wife Ashley and our 4 boys.
I became the coordinator for this site in February 2019 after the passing of Sharon Becker. Although I am now the coordinator, my contributions here go back to 2007 when I first began an interest in geneaology and tracing my family's history. I first began photographing my families gravestones and from there began photographing entire cemeteries starting with the Tingley Cemetery and many more from that time until now.
