Sharon R. Becker

Bramon, Foland,
Becker
Photo Above L-R: Sharon seated on Pearle (BRAMON) FOLAND’s lap, Luella (YOUNG) BRAMON, Sheryl BECKER seated on the lap of Norma G. (FOLAND) BECKER

My name is Sharon R. Becker.

My mother's grandparents were Fred B. and Luella (Young) Bramon who farmed northeast of Delphos in Ringgold County. Their oldest daughter was Pearle V. Bramon who married Homer L. Foland of Grand River in Decatur County and became my mother's parents. Their only child, Norma, was born on the Homer Foland farm northeast of Grand River, originally the Samuel and Sarah Belle (Emley) Foland farm. Sam and Sarah were Homer's parents.

Norma has been involved with the family genealogy going back to pre-computer days when she visited courthouses and cemeteries to obtain nuggets of information. Her quest has taken her to every courthouse in the State of Iowa, a remarkable feat I think.

I graduated from Grand Valley Community High School in Kellerton with the Class of 1970. Not going far from home, I attended Graceland University, obtaining my B.A. in 1974. In 2005 I obtained my paralegal certification from Des Moines Area Community College.

I am a member of American League of American Pen Women (Des Moines Branch) and The Iowa Poetry Association. I am heavily involved with the GV Museum in Kellerton, formerly the Foland Country School which was located northeast of Grand River on the ancestral farm at one time.

I enjoy photography and have shared a lot of my area photographs on this site. Hopefully they are of interest!

Sincerely,
Sharon R. Becker

Note from Tony Mercer: Sharon passed away January 21, 2019. She had been Ringgold County's coordinator since 2007. This "biography" was written by Sharon for the "About Us" section of this website while she was coordinator. It has been preserved as written ommiting the contact info.
