Hunt on for new superintendent after Decker resigns from MACS
It's time for a superintendent search again in the Mount Ayr Community school district. After three years as superintendent,
Bill DECKER resigned effective at the end of the 2005-06 school year to take the job of superintendent in the Harlan
Community school district at a special meeting of the Mount Ayr Community school board Monday morning. "In light of
family issues, taking the job at Harlan will be the best resolution to my personal situation," DECKER told the board,
referring to a need to be closer to aging parents. "I was not motivated to seek another position as a reflection on
my relationship with the school board, the school district, the administration, staff or community." DECKER had
kept the school board up to date on his possible move and his discussion with a couple of school districts about their
open superintendent positions. He told the board Monday that he had enjoyed his time in the Mount Ayr Community school
district and would continue to give his best efforts to the district until he leaves at the end of June. The board
accepted DECKER'S resignatiion with thanks for his service effective at the end of the current school year. "We've been
fortunate to have you as part of our district and it says something for our district that we have been working with
superintendents who have potential to move on to other positions," school board president Craig ELLIOTT said.
