Homecoming royalty candidates have been named for the celebration at Mount Ayr Community
high school this week. Queen candidates include, from left: Shayna Greene, daughter of Mack and Jeanine Greene of Mount Ayr;
Amy Weeda, daughter of Danny and Carol Ann Weeda of Mount Ayr;
Sarah Geist, daughter of Crae and Jodie Geist of Mount Ayr; Heather Ward, daughter of Charlotte Ward of Blockton and
Wayne Ward of Mount Ayr; and
Lauren Jobe, daughter of Greg and Michelle Jobe of Sun Valley Lake.
King candidates include, from left: Camron Collier, son of Doug Collier of Kellerton and Janie
Stark of Grand River; Adam Jackson, son of Curt and Teresa Jackson of Redding;
Brandon Still, son of Brad and Cherrye Still of Kellerton;
Brett Cannon, son of Gregg and Debbie Cannon of Mount Ayr; and
Chase French, son of Bob French and Sandy French of Mount Ayr.
Prince and princess for the homecoming festitives are Baylee Love, son of Joe and Jamie Love of Redding, and
Addyson Flammang, daughter of Heidi Albaugh of Mount Ayr and Mark Flammang of Albia.
Both the queen and king will be crowned in ceremonies tonight (Thursday) at Mount Ayr
Community high school. The royalty will then reign during the parade Friday, the football game and the
homcoming dance.

was this entry by the sophomore class with the theme "Cardinals R Coming Down With Da Fever."
Greene, Still reign for MACHS homecoming
Shayla GREENE was crowned queen and Brandon STILL was crowned king over the Mount Ayr Community high school homecoming
activities Thursday and Friday. Both of the candidates were crowned at homecoming activities Thursday night. They
reigned over homecoming activities, which included the parade, football game and dance. GREENE is the daughter of
Mack and Jeanine GREENE of Mount Ayr and STILL is the son of Brad and Cherrye STILL of Kellerton. "Friday Night
Fever" was the theme for the celebration this year. The Mount Ayr Community Student Council and cheerleaders sponsored
several activities during the homecoming week. Students and faculty dressed up for dress up days, school halls were
decorated and floats made for the parade. Spirit days began Monday, Sept. 26, with red neck or hillbilly day. Tuesday
was dress up day. Wednesday was color day and hats could be worn. Thursday was decade day with different groups
dressing to a different decade and Friday was black and white day. Classes decorated hallways during the week,
with first place going to juniors, second place to freshman, third place to seniors, and fourth place to sophomores.
Section 8A won the junior high decorating contest. Thursday night activities began with a student council supper
that was well attended. The jersey auction followed, raising $4,300, more than a $1,000 more than last year, for the
football program. The queen coronation followed with last year's homecoming queen Trisha HENRY helping with the
ceremony to crown Shayla GREENE. Also helping at the crowning were prince and princess for the homecoming
festivities -- Baylee LOVE, son of Joe and Jamie LOVE of Redding, and Addyson FLAMMANG, daughter of Heidi ALBAUGH
of Mount Ayr an Mark FLAMMANG of Albia. Other queen candidates were Sarah GEIST, daughter of Crae and Jodie GEIST
of Mount Ayr; Lauren JOBE, daughter of Greg and Michelle JOBE of Sun Valley Lake and Susan HICKMAN of Mount Ayr;
Heather WARD, daughter of Charlotte WARD of Blockton and Wayne WARD of Mount Ayr; and Amy WEEDA, daughter of
Danny and Carol Ann WEEDA of Mount Ayr. Two volleyball games were then held just for fun and a parent skit presented
before the king was crowned. Brandon STILL was crowned by last year's homecoming king Brian INLOES. Other
king candidates were Brett CANNON, son of Gregg and Debbie CANNON of Mount Ayr; Camron COLLIER, son of Doug
COLLIER of Kellerton and Janie STARK of Grand River; Chase FRENCH, son of Bob FRENCH and Sandy FRENCH of Mount Ayr;
and Adam JACKSON, son of Curt and Teresa JACKSON of Redding. Friday activities began with the annual homecoming
parade, which featured parade marshals Merritt and Lorene TRIGGS.
Winning parade classes included: Clas floats: 1. "Cardinals R Coming Down With Da Fever," sophomore class;
2. "Cage the Cardinals," freshman class; 3. "Buring Up The Cards," junior class; 4. "Ride Over The Cardinals,"
senior class. School organizations: 1. Mount Ayr Education Association; 2. Mount Ayr Community high school
cheeleaders; 4. Sites For Learning. Community Entries: 1. Mount Ayr Medical Clinic; 2. U.S. Bank; 3. Head Start.
Also honored in the parade were homecoming royalty and football players from 25 years ago. A pep rally was held at the
high school football field following the parade, with elementary students joining junior high and senior high students
for the rally. Winners for various contests were announced at the pep rally and the spirit stick was awarded to the
junior class for their efforts during the week. The MOunt Ayr Community cross country team got in the act by
running a football in a relay from Leon to Mount Ayr. The team ran so well that they covered the distance in three and
a half hours with a half hour stop at Kellerton for a break. The Mount Ayr Community Raiders lost the football game
28-22 to the Central Decatur Cardinals. The Mount Ayr Community high school marching band presented the program which
they took to the Clarinda Band Jamoree last week at halftime. Following the football game, the homecoming dance was
held, with music by DJ Rick LACEY.
