The Mount Ayr Community Raider marching band performs for the judges at the class 2A
state marching band contest in Glenwood Saturday

Division I rating for MAC band

A division I superior rating was earned by the Mount Ayr Community high school Raider marching band at the Iowa High School Music Association's state marching band festival at Glenwood high school Saturday.

The Raider band competed in the Class 2A division of the state contest.

The show included: "Greased Lightnin'," "Summer Nights" and "Born to Hand Jive" from the musical "Grease."

The IHSMA rating vary from a division I to a division V. There are a total of four judges -- two are on the football field evaluating each individual student, while two judges are in the press box evaluating the entire band. After the performance the points are totaled, and that entire score is the groups' division rating.

"The students by far performed their best show on Saturday," director STOFHOFF said. "They were very confident on the field and played with a lot of control. Every section, including the color guard, brass, woodwind and percussion scored a very high division I rating in music execution and music general effect. It was definitely a great way to end the 2008 competitive season."

This is the band's second consecutive division I rating, and their 13th division I rating in the last 18 years.
