The Mount Ayr high school graduating class of 1945 met at Smith's Sports and Spirits on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005.

There were 27 in attendance with 16 classmates and 11 guests. Dean COBB gave the welcome and blessing before the meal. Marietta COBB read the minutes of the meeting which was held in September 2004 and the alumni meeting in May 2005 and gave the treasurer's report. Alice ANDERSON read the names of the deceased members of the class: Bill JOHNSTON, Bob TEALE, Basil WILLIS, Margaret DENHART McCLURG, Bob ROE, Beverlee VAUGHN HOLGATE, Marie MOSIER NELSON, Mildred DIXON ELLIOTT, Jack ELLIOTT, Bill BRYAN, Ruth WHEELOCK BARTLETT, Wayne BRENIZER, Loyd HUDSON, Jane RICHARDS HUTT, Irene TOLAND STEEBY, Leslie OLNEY and Bob WILSON.

For the program everyone reminisced about the businesses in town the year we graduated and each told of any events happening to them or their families during the past year.

Correspondence was read from Louella (TYE) RICE WYSS, Mrs. Bob (Diane) WILSON and Cappy Williams ORR. A name was drawn for a women's gift going to Jane BUCK and the man's to David IRVING.

Classmates attending were Minnie SHELDON BRECKENRIDGE, DonElla DAILEY REED, Ruth SAVILLE, Bea ROE, Lois BRAND TRIGGS, Colleen ANDERSON KNIGHT, Alice GREENMAN ANDERSON, Roena SNETHEN ADAMS, Helen HETZEL NEWTON, Athena KINDER STRANGE, Marietta STAMPER COBB, Jack FOSTER, David IRVING, Marvin REYNOLDS, Roland BUCK, J. W. (Junior) DILLENBURG.

Guests were Theressa FOSTER, Darlene IRVING, Helen REYNOLDS, Jane BUCK, Lucy DILLENBURG, Duane KNIGHT, Swede ANDERSON, Calvin ADAMS, Melvin NEWTON, Neil JOHNSON and Dean COBB. Everyone was especially happy to see Lucy and Junior DILLENBURG as they had not attended before.

Hopefully plans can be made for a reunion in the year 2006.

The Class of 1945 attended the Mount Ayr high school alumni banquet with 14 class members and eight spouses, friends or family. A special table was reserved for us and we were the first to go to the buffet dinner.

Roland and Jane BUCK had decorated the table with one bouquet of our class colors, lavender and white, which was given to Norma SWARTZ FRENCH and the other bouquet with the school colors, black and blue with some of the candles that were at each place setting, was given to Jack FOSTER. "Class of 1945" and "60" were printed on the candles.

The class members attending were Roena SNETHEN ADAMS, Alice GREENMAN ANDERSON, Minnie SHELDON BRECKENRIDGE, Roland BUCK, Marietta STAMPER COBB, Jack FOSTER, Norma SWARTZ FRENCH, Marge JACKSON HUDSON, Dave IRVING, Colleen ANDERSON KNIGHT, Don Ella DAILEY REED, Jackson HUDSON, Alice VANDERFLUGHT RUSH, Ruth SAVILLE, Athena KINDER STRANGE.

Guests were Calvin ADAMS, Jane BUCK, Thressa FOSTER, Ginny (Marge HUDSON'S daughter), Darlene IRVING, Duane KNIGHT, Raymond RUSH and Walter Neil JOHNSON.

On Saturday, September 24, the class will be meeting at Smith's Sports & Spirits at 1 p.m.

The Mount Ayr high school graduating class of 1945 met at the Heritage Park Apartments community room in Mount Ayr with Jan FORD catering the meal on September 15, 2007.

There were 18 in attendendance, including 11 classmates and seven spouses.

Dean COBB gave the blessing before the meal.

Minnie SHELDON BRECKENRIDGE read the names of the deceased members, lit a candle and had silent prayer. Those names were Bill JOHNSTON, Bob TEALE, Basil WILLIS, Margaret DENHART McCLURG, Bob ROE, Beverlee VAUGHN HOLGATE, Marie MOSIER NELSON, Mildred DIXON ELLIOTT, Jack ELLIOTT, Bill BRYAN, Ruth WHEELOCK BARTLETT, Wayne BRENIZER, Loyd HUDSON, Jane RICHARDS HUTT, Irene TOLAND STEEBY, Leslie OLNEY, Bob WILSON, Norma ROBINSON FREESTONE, Helen WARRICK ROBINSON, Marvin REYNOLDS and Alice GREENMAN ANDERSON.

They had a short program with some readings and a few remarks from others. Correspondence was read from Helen HETZEL NEWTON and Marjorie JACKSON HUDSON.

They toured the restored depot with Bob SICKLES and his wife graciously explaining things and the theater which is being retored with Ron LANDPHAIR showing them what has been done and the future work.

Classmates present were Lois BRAND TRIGGS, Roland BUCK, Jack FOSTER, David IRVING, Ruth SAVILLE, Minnie SHELDON BRECKENRIDGE Marietta STAMPER COBB, Norma SWARTZ FRENCH, Alice VANDERFLUGTH RUSH, Colleen ANDERSON KNIGHT and Ruby CALDWELL SCHOONOVER.

Guests were Jane BUCK, Theressa FOSTER, Darlene IRVING, Dean COBB, Raymond RUSH, Duane KNIGHT and Kenneth SCHOONOVER.

It was decided to meet next year.

The classmates of 1945 met at the Iowa Roadhouse on September 10.

Those attending were Raymond and Alice RUSH of Saint Charles, Norma FRENCH of Creston, Minnie BRECKENRIDGE of Tingley and Don Ella REED, Roena and Calvin ADAMS, Lois TRIGGS, Dave and Darlene IRVING, Ruth SAVILLE, Roland and Jane BECK of Mount Ayr.

They will plan to meet again on the second Wednesday in April of 2009.

Fifteen of the classmates of 1945 met at the Iowa Roadhouse on April 8, 2009. Those attending were Raymond and Alice RUSH of Saint Charles, Morna FRENCH of Creston, Colleen KNIGHT of Carroll, Minnie BRECKENRIDGE of Tingley, Dean and Marietta COBB of Blockton and those from Mount Ayr were David and Darlene IRVING, Lois TRIGGS, Roena ADAMS, Don Ella REED, Roland and Jane BUCK and Ruth SAVILLE.

Norma FRENCH had a program about a "Rabbit" and "The Empty Table." Discussion was held about a class reunion in July if plans can be carried out.

The graduating class from Mount Ayr high school of 1945 met to celebrate their 64th reunion at Breadeaux in Mount Ayr on Saturday, July 25, 2009. The theme was Christmas in July planned by Norma SWARTZ FRENCH, Roena SNETHEN ADAMS and Don Ella DAILEY REED. Dean COBB gave the blessing before the meal which was enjoyed by 14 class members and eight guests. Norma FRENCH read some jokes while they were waiting for the meal to be served. Marietta and Norma read letters or reported of phone messages from those who were unable to attend this year: Wanda SANDAGE BOOM, Helen HETZEL NEWTON, Thelma CAMPBELL MAXEY, Marjorie JACKSON HUDSON, Louelle (Tye) RICE WYSS, Roger CONANT and Jack FOSTER.

After lunch a business meeting was conducted by Marietta and Norma. The minutes were read of the reunion in 2007. Next year will be their 65th and plans with the same committee are to meet at the Iowa Roadhouse in Mount Ayr for the noon meal and in the evening attend the all high school alumni banquet on Saturday, May 29, 2010. The classmates are considering a graduation picture with a short article about their life which will be played at the Princess Theater. After viewing the veterans tribute, this was thought to be a good idea if enough are in favor.

Colleen ANDERSON KNIGHT had an impressive memorial service for the 24 deceased class members and read their names. She also sang a cappella "When Your Hair Is Turned to Silver." There are 28 living members and no one has had any contact with Velma HARTSCHEN. There were 53 graduating in their class.

The final performance was Mr. (Norma) and Mrs. (Roena) Santa reporting over a radio station about their life and family at the North Pole. It was very humorous and enjoyed by all. Norma, Roena and DonElla had provided many "Christmas" gifts that were drawn with several gifts which DonElla distributed to each person.

Those attending were Helen PRATT MICHELSON and grandson Ryan, West Des Moines; Wendell F. PALMER and Irene MONDAY PALMER, Barnard, MO; Junior and Lucy DILLENBURG and Norma SWARTZ FRENCH, Creston; Colleen ANDERSON KNIGHT, Carroll; Minnie SHELDON BRECKENRIDGE, Tingley; Dean and Marietta STAMPER COBB, Blockton; and Roland and Jank BUCK, John and Juanita NICKELS, Ruth SAVILLE, Lois BRAND TRIGGS, David and Darlene IRVING, DonElla DAILEY REED and Calvin and Roena SNETHEN ADAMS, all from Mount Ayr.

The group adjourned to attend "Smokin' in the Ayr" Ayr Days.

Classmates and spouses try to meet the second Wednesday in April and September at a local restaurant or somewhere they choose.

On October 14 the 1945 classmates met with their spouses for lunch at the Iowa Roadhouse. There were 12 in attendance: Ruth SAVILLE, Roland and Jane BUCK, Calvinand Roena ADAMS, DonElla REED, David and Darlene IRVING, Norma FRENCH, Minnie BRECKENRIDGE and Dean and Marietta COBB.

Colleen KNIGHT was in Mount Ayr staying with her daughter Debbie ROBERTSON, but wasn't able to meet with them.

Plans are being made for their 65th reunion in May and they will also attend the alumni banquet at the schoolhouse in Mount Ayr.

The graduating Class of 1945 from the Mount Ayr high school met at noon on May 29, 2010, at the Extension building with eight class members and four spouses, Minnie SHELDON BRECKENRIDGE of Tingley, Roger CONANT (Juanita) of Phoenix, AZ, Norma SWARTZ FRENCH of Creston, Dave IRVING (Darlene), DonElla DALIEY REED, Ruth SAVILLE, Roena SNETHEN ADAMS (Calvin), all of Mount Ayr, and marietta STAMPER COBB (Dean) of Blockton.

Dean COBB gave the prayer of thanksgiving for the meal and their gathering. Lunch was served by the class members. Minutes of the last reunion were read. Letters were read from those who were unable to attend and a report of phone calls was made. Minnie BRECKENRIDGE had a memorial service for the 27 deceased class members. They parted to gather again that evening for the all high school alumni.

Fifteen were in attendance including others who were not at the luncheon: Alice VANDERFLUGHT RUSH (Raymond) of Saint Charles and Colleen ANDERSON KNIGHT of Carroll. DonElla REED'S daughter also sat at their table. Norma FRENCH gave a presentation of the history of their class which had some interesting "highlights" of the "Forties."

The classmates will plan to meet for a luncheon and will be notified where on the second Wednesday of April and September.

The class of 1945 met at Rumor's Wednesday, April 13, with eight classmates, six spouses and friends. Norma FRENCH read a poem and there were some pictures taken. After lunch Norma, Ruth SAVILLE and Dean and Marietta COBB went to Clearview Nursing Home to visit two classmates there, Minnie BRECKENRIDGE and DonElla REED. They enjoyed cookies, a drink and visiting. Those attending the luncheon were Raymond and Alice RUSH of Saint Charles, Norma FRENCH of Creston, Calvin and Roena ADAMS and their daughter, Jeanie GAVIS, of Murray, Lois TRIGGS, Ruth SAVILLE, David and Darlene IRVING, Roland and Jane BUCK and Dean and Marietta COBB of Blockton.The next meeting will be the second Wednesday in September, Sept. 14. Place will be announced later.

Norma read letters from two of the classmates, Helen NEWTON and Cappy ORR.

We did a quiz game "If the shoe fits."

Norma gave out copies of the class picture.

Class of 1945 luncheon

Seven attended a 1945 classmate luncheon at Rumors on Friday, July 17.

Norma French had a quizz for us, and Lois Triggs answered the most correctly and won a prize.

Minutes were read from the last luncheon.

Ruth Saville, Roland Buck, and Lois Triggs from Mount Ayr, Norma French from Creston, Marietta Cobb from Blockton and Raymond and Alice Rush from St. Charles attended.

We hope to meet again in the spring and more will attend.
