62nd class reunion being planned

The Mount Ayr high school graduating class of 1943 is planning a 62nd year class reunion Memorial Day weekend.

A social time and buffet will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2005 at Smith's Sports & Spirits on the square in Mount Ayr.

Please contact Baron McANINCH or Bertha (BROWN) JEZEK in order that we may know approximate numbers and if there are further questions.

Class of 1943 Reunion

Saturday, July 18, 2009, fund nine members of the class of 1943 and guests enjoying a buffet luncheon at the Iowa Roadhouse in Mount Ayr.

Correspondence, reports and telephone calls from those not able to attend were given plus lively conversation from those who did attend.

Those attending were Barton McANINCH and wife Marlys, Bertha JEZEK and guest Dale JUERGENS, Rose HUNT, Retha DILLENBURG, Jean BURNHAM and guests Virginia and Bill GAMBLE, Walter HUGGINS and wife Ellen, Lucille MAIN and husband Marvin, Tom TEALE, Cleola GEIST, Barbara WALTER, Dorothy REYNOLDS and Wanda McGAHUEY.

They will meet in 2010.

Mount Ayr Class of 1943

The Mount Ayr high school class of 1943 held the 67th reunion on July 17, 2010 at the Senior Citizen Center in Mount Ayr. The meal was served by the Wishard Chapel ladies.

Barton McANINCH welcomed everyone. There was a lot of visitng and catching up over the last year.

Bertha JEZEK read letters from classmates who weren't able to come: Ivan DENNIS, Annabel and Bob MALEY, Everlyn (DRAKE) COOK, Jean (OLSEN) KIDNEY and Walter HUGGINS. Barton had reports from Jean (LIGGETT) BURNHAM, Phyllis (SMITH) ROBINSON and Charlotte (WILLIAMS) MORRISSEY.

Those attending were Barton and Marlys McANINCH of Cedar Falls, Tom TEALE and Terry WHEELER of Urbandale, Bertha JEZEK of Diagonal, Dale JEURGENS of Clearfield, Rose HUNT of Redding, Barbara WALTER, Wanda McGAHUEY, Dorothy REYNOLDS, Earl BRAND, Eldeen and Denver GRIGGS, Cleola GEIST and Retha DILLENBURG, all of Mount Ayr.

It was decided to have another reunion next year. Arrangements this year were made by Barton, Bertha and Cleola and they plan to do it for next year.

REUNION ~ Class of 1943

The Mount Ayr high school graduating class of 1943 enjoyed getting together July 16, 2011 for their 68th year class reunion. The Mount Ayr Senior Citizens Center provided a very nice place for the group.

There were seven class members and nine guests present.

Barton McANINCH, the senior class president, called the meting to order about 12:15 p.m. Dale JUERGENS asked the blessing. They then filled their plates with food catered by Jan FORD.

After enjoying the good food, those attending reported on family activities and letters were read from Ivan DENNIS of Independence, MO; Jean (OLSON) KIDNEY of Perry, and Bob and Annabelle (SMITH) MALEY of Lafayette, LA. Rose (SLAVIK) HUNT of Redding called to say that she would be unable to attend. They were sorry.

Retha retired from the Neighborhood Center and is enjoying time with her family. Cleola told them a scholarship has been established at Northwest Missouri University in Maryville, MO in memory of her son, Cullen. Tom is looking forward to "renewing" his driver's license. He continues to be an avid sports enthusiast. Bertha has moved to another house nearby. She enjoys the sports activities of her seven great-grandchildren, five of whom are enrolled in the Mount Ayr school. Two are enrolled in the Creston district. Walter is having some hearing problems but does enjoy visits by the family. Lucille lost her husband, Marvin, and has moved to Mount Ayr. She recently had knee surgery. Barton reported on a trip to New York City, NY for a granddaughter's wedding. He and Marlys enjoy visits from their family.

TEALE, Jr. of Urbandale; Walter and Ellen HUGGINS of Gladstone, MO; Cleola (BURCHETT) GEIST of Mount Ayr; Bertha (BROWN) JEZEK and Dale JUERGENS of Diagonal; Lucille (MERRITT) MAIN of Mount Ayr, and Retha (MAY) DILLENBURG of Mount Ayr.

Guests were Walter's daughter, Nancy CORDWELL, and Jim BAILEY of Gladstone, MO; Tom's good friend, Troy WHEELER of Urbandale, and Dorothy REYNOLDS (Norman), Wanda McGAHUEY (Vernon) and Barbara WALTER (Raymond), all with Mount Ayr addresses and the spouses of class members.
