Mount Ayr Class of 1942 Reunion

There were 43 in attendance at the reunion of the Mount Ayr High school graduating class of 1942. Twenty-four were members of the class and three were teachers. It was held Saturday night, May 22, at the Mount Ayr American Legion Building.

A delicious dinner was served by the Legion Auxiliary. A cake with the class colors, blue and white, and class flower, blue carnation, was baked and decorated by Georgia BRAND. Tables were decorated with blue carnation bouquets. The class motto was "May Our Light Shine After Us." Each person received packet of materials representing Ringgold County.

A short program was presented, with Lorraine DRAKE LESAN as mistress of ceremonies. The teachers attending were introduced - Mrs. Ila TAYLOR GRAY, who taught first grade; Mrs. Pearl MATTHEWS WARIN, a sixth grade teacher, and Milt HENDERSON, vocational agriculture insructor, and Mrs. HENDERSON. A memorial, in honor of deceased members was held. Donald RICHMOND gave the roll call, with each member responding.

Class awards were given to: the first person to send in her reservation, Phyllis GRAY; Amon HUNT won the fishing award; Lois HUNT won the door prize; and Marcel HAMMER LILLIG won the prize for having the youngest descendant.

Margaret HUDSON PENCE, pianist; Annabelle TAYLOR SWEETEN, vocalist, and John HAYES, clarinetist, presented several musical numbers. The remainder of the evening was spent visiting and sharing albums and pictures.

The planning committee included Helen CALDWEELL LUCHSINGER, Betty NICHOLS BRADLEY, Lorraine DRAKE LESAN, Lois RANDOLPH HUNT and Carol LAMOREAUX WEEDA.

Class members and guests attending were: from Mount Ayr - Robert and Marilyn RICHARDS, Betty BRADLEY, Carol WEEDA, Mr.and Mrs. Paul DAVIS, Mrs. GRAY, Mr. and Mrs. HENDERSON, Amon and Lois (RANDOLPH) HUNT, Mrs. WARIN, Helen LUCHSINGER, Doris and Paul HANNON.

Others from Iowa were: Vera (NICHOLS) DUNCAN, Gravity; Margaret PENCE, Des Moines; Robert and Ruth JOHNSTON, Milo; Mr. and Mrs. Jim JETER, Bedford; Mr. and Mrs. Ivan RAINEY of Kellerton; Mr. and Mrs. Don (Annabelle TAYLOR) SWEETEN of Lamoni; Bob and Lorraine LESAN of Benton; and Marcel HAMMER of Cedar Rapids.

From out of state were: Vaughn and Neva LAMB of Escndico, Calif.; Wayne GARDNER of Hemet, Calif.; Helen COOK VOWLES of Simi Valley, Calif.; Debbie JOHNSON of Palmdale, Calif.; Mrs. Ruth PAPP of Sacramento, Calif.; John L. HAYES of Rocklin, Calif.; Neil THOMAS of Oakland, Calif.; Donald and Kathryn RICHMOND of Versailles, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. John SEEVERS of Tualatin, Oregon; LaVon and Phyllis GRAY of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Frank DAILEY of Fargo, N.D.
