For the first time since 1992 and the second time ever, a Mount Ayr Community high school golf squad is headed to the
state tournament. The Raider golf squad took second place at the district trounament at the Lake Panorama National
Golf Course Friday to be one of eight teams from across the state to qualify for the state tournament. "We thought we
had a good chance to make the state finals, and we were glad to be able to do that, even though we didn't shoot quite as
well as we would have liked Friday," Coach Scott GILES said. The state tournament will be a 36-hole competition over the
same Panorama course, with tee-off at noon of Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday for the competition. While this is the first
time in 10 years the Raiders have gone to state as a team, senior T. J. REDDING, who leads the squad, will be going to the
state tournament for the fourth straight time. He placed 18th in the Class 3A as a freshman and ninth in Class 3A as a
sophomore while playing with the Creston team. Last year, as a junior, he placed second in Class 2A as an individual.
"T. J. has been playing very well lately and we think he has a great chance to bring home the individual title this time
around," GILES said. At the district at Panorama, the Raiders placed second with a 343 behind Colfax-Mingo, which shot
a 332 for the day. The Raiders had beat the same team in the sectional tournament a week earlier, so they feel they can beat them
at the state meet. At the district meed, T. J. REDDING led the way with a two-over par 74, five strokes ahead of medalist
runner-up Kyle MARCUM of Clarinda, who shot a 79. Other scors for the Raiders in the tournament included a 89 by Justin
REDDING, 14th best for the day, and 90's by Tanner RINEHART and Ryan ROE, 15th best scores for the day.
