2006 Mount Ayr Alumni Reunion
The 2006 Mount Ayr high school alumni reunion was held at the high school on Saturday evening, May 27, 2006. Approximately
138 graduates and guests were present for the 6 p.m. meal served by Kathy COMER and helpers. The group was welcomed
by Rodney SHIELDS, president of the Mount Ayr Community school board, after which the invocation was given by Helen
SCHARDEIN. Alumni officers, president JoKay SHIELDS, vice-president Rose JAMES and secretary/treasurer Marilyn JOHNSON
had planned the evening. The earliest graduate present was Margaret (EURITT) CAMPBELL from the class of 1934. The classes
of 1936, 1937, 1938 and 1939 each had two member present. The class with the most graduates present was the 50-year
class with 21 graduates. Those present were Larry BROWN, Gene CULVER, Pattie (CULVER) FOLTZ, Peggy (DUFTY) WALTER, Betty (ENDSLEY)
WHITSON, Louise (FARIS) STAMPER, John FLETCHER, Gary GREENE, Beatrie (GRINDSTAFF) SCROGGIE, Leila (HACKER) NIDAY, Donald HENSLEY,
Sue (HOME) ASHLEY, Ruth Alice POTTER, Marvin PRATT, Hyatt RICE, Marcia (ROGERS) MILLER, Larry SICKELS, Sue (TERWILLIGER)
RUCKMAN, Kay (WILLEY) SWALLOW, Lester Junior WION and John CAMPBELL. We were happy to honor the class of 1946 celebrating
their 60th anniversary. Those present were Elizabeth (LOVE) CAMPBELL, Harlan LAYTON, Rose (MORRIS) GOFF, Junior JAMES,
Duane BELL, Maxine (GREENE) ANDERSON, Max ANDERSON, Bill WEBB, Patty (RICHMOND) JEFFERSON, Elizabeth (BISHOP) JEFFERSON,
Harold SCOTT, Virginia (KEENAN) SIVERLY and Doris (BROWN) OVERHOLSER. The family with the most graduates was the FOLTZ
family with four graduates present. The latest graduates present were Rodney SHIELDS and Pam (FOLTZ) POORE from the class
of 1976. It was reported that three $100 scholarships had been presented on senior awards day to Brett CANNON, Chanelle
DRAKE and Amy WEEDA, members of the class of 2006. Janet HICKMAN gave a brief history of the scholarship program and
the selection of the recipients. A freewill offering was taken to add to the scholarship fund for next year. JoKay
SHIELDS announced that she will not serve as president for the coming year. A volunteer is needed to fill the president's
position. Please contact SHIELDS if you are interested in serving on the alumni committee. Entertainment for the
evening was provided by Pam (FOLTZ) POORE and Mary DAVENPORT. Neva FISHER and Pam POORE led the group in singing the
old school song and the new Raider Fight Song. After reminiscing, the group departed to meet again next year to renew
old friendships.
