2005 Mount Ayr alumni banquet
The 2005 Mount Ayr high school alumni reunion was held at the high school on Saturday evening, May 28, 2005. Approximately
140 graduates and guests were present for the 6 p.m. meal served by Kathy COMER and helpers. The group was welcomed by
Rodney SHIELDS, president of the Mount Ayr Community school bard, after which the invocation was given by Rev. Ed SHIELDS.
Alumni officers, President JoKaye SHIELDS, Vice-President DonElla REED and Secretary/Treasurer Margaret BISHOP had planned
for the evening. The first order of business at the business meeting was roll call of classes. The earliest graduate
prsent was Margaret (EURITT) CAMPBELL from the class of 1934. The class with the most graduates present was the
50 year class with 25 graduates. Those present were Anna Lynn (IRVING) BEVINGTON and Harry BEVINGTON, Janie (CANNON)
JENSEN, Marcia (DALBEY) SHURTLEFF, Roberta (DERICKSON) TEDDER, Alice (DRAKE) GREENE, Mildred (DRAKE) JOHNSTON, Renabell (ELMORE)
ADAMS, Phillip FOLTZ, Verlee (MORGAN) GALBRAITH and Melvin GALBRAITH, Gary KING, Colleen (LARSEN) GREENMAN, Howard MARTIN,
Larry MILLER, Kenneth PICKENS, Lila (REYNOLDS) OVERHOLTZER, Rex RUCKMAN, Pat (RUSK) BRABY, Kay (DAUGHTON) SICKELS and
Bob SICKELS, Helen (SICKELS) HUNT, Katherine (WEBB) WION, Joyce WILEY and Cynthis (WHEELOCK) HARPER. We were happy to
also honor the class of 1945 celebrating their 60th anniversary. They had 14 class members present. The family with the
most graduates present was the DAILEY family with seven graduates present. The latest graduates present were Pam (FOLTZ)
POORE and Rodney SHIELDS from the class of 1976. It was reported that four $150 scholarships had been presented to
graduating seniors on Senior Awards Day becaus of the generosity of this group. They were presented to Trisha HENRY,
Nicholas TAYLOR, Amy TRIGGS and Lucas WARD. The scholarship committed consisting of Janet HICKMAN, Martha LANDPHAIR and
Theola WEEDA was thanked for their efforts in picking the seniors to recieve the scholarships. A substantial amount was
collected from the freewill offering taken to add to the scholarship fund for next year. New officers for next year
are Vice-President Rose JAMES and Secretary/Treasurer Marilyn JOHNSON. Entertainment for the evening was provided
by Pam (FOLTZ) POORE and Mary DAVENPORT. Everyone enjoyed their beautiful vocal selections. Edna JONES, Neva FISHER
and Pam POORE led the group in singing the old school song and the new school song. After much reminiscing, the group
departed to meet again next year to renew old friendships.
