Three new faces will be part of the faculty for the Mount Ayr Community school district when

Preparations underway for opening of school Monday
School begins Monday, Aug. 24, for students in the Mount Ayr Community school district and students will find several
changes when they go back to classes. There are three new faces in the faculty and administration, which is a smaller
number than has been the case in many years. New facultyNew faculty for the school district
this year all comes at the secondary level. Hired as the new ag education teacher is Justin AKERS of Kellerton. AKERS
is a Mount Ayr Community high school graduate and received a degree in ag education from Iowa State University. This is his
first teaching position, taking the place of Jack COOK, who retired this past year. Don RAY will be the new Spanish
teacher at the high school. He will be teaching Spanish on a three-quarters time contract. RAY has degrees in English
and mathematics from Grinnell College and a master's degree in English from Brown University. He has taught at Grant City, MO,
and has been a substitute teacher in the MAC district prior to being hired. He will be working on his full certification
in Spanish. Also joining the staff is Kurtis CHRISTENSEN, the district's new technology director. CHRISTENSEN worked in
the Lenox Community school district before working in technology for the Green Valley Area Education Agency, where he worked
before coming to the school district. AdministrationAdministration for the district remains
the same this year with Russ REITER, superintendent; Ken HARRISON, secondary principal; and Lynn WALLACE, elementary
