100 years of Raider football being
celebrated in MAC homecoming

Homecoming this year at Mount Ayr Community high school has a new twist because of shared activities with the Autumn in the Ayr celebration.

"100 Years of Raider Heroes" is the theme for the celebration, which began earlier this week with spirit days.

Monday was "Hawaiian Day," Tuesday was "All Star Sports Day" and Wednesday was "Super Hero Day." Today (Thursday) will be "Decade Day," with different groups dressing up to match a decade. Seniors will dress up in 1960s attire, juniors in 1970s attire, sophomores in 1980s attire, and freshman and junior high students in 1990s attire. Friday will close out the dress up days with "Black and White Day."

Students will also be doing several decoration activities during the week at the school and around the community.

Today (Thursday) a number of activities are planned including a supper, football jersey auction, queen coronation, powder puff football game, senior parents' skit and king coronation. The meal will be served in the high school commons and the other activities will be held held in the high school gymnasium.

The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the Student Council supper, served for a freewill donation.

The jersey auction will be held at 6:30 p.m. with football jerseys auctioned off to be worn Friday before the football game.

This year there will be a new twist as two jerseys - white and black versions of number 03 -- will be auctioned for keeps with proceeds going to the football field restoration project.

The queen coronation will follow the football jersey auction -- with the queen to be named at a new time this year on Thursday night instead of at halftime on Friday. The change in tradition was made so that the queen could serve longer in homecoming activities.

The five candidates for homcoming queen this year are, from left, Stephanie NOBLE, daughter of Don NOBLE of Mount Ayr and Lori NOBLE of Creston and niece of Vic and Shelly LILIENTHAL of Mount Ayr; Andrea LARSEN, daughter of Bill and Connie LARSEN of Clearfield; Heidi WINKLER, daughter of Gordon and Linda WINKLER of Mount Ayr; Beth GOURLEY, daughter of Dave and Jolene GOURLEY of Mount Ayr; and, Katie KIMBLEY, daughter of Debbie Jo ROTHMAN of Des Moines and graddaughter of Richard and Judy DRAKE of Mount Ayr.

Prince and princess for the coronations ceremonies this year will be Trevor ANDERSON, son of Linda ANDERSON of Beaconsfield and Sam ANDERSON of Grand River, and Laura DAVISON, daughter of Robert and Julie DAVISON of Maloy.

The king candidates this year are, from left, Race NIEMAN, Jared ARMSTRONG, Brett YODER, Dustin ADAMS and Chris WHITSON.
