Sparks compete in solo competition
Five members of the Mount Ayr High School Sparks dance team competed in the Iowa State Dance Team Association (ISDTA) Class 1 State Solo Competition at Newton
High School Saturday, October 31.Ashton Quick, Haylea England, Kennedy Brokaw-McAlexander and Ryann Martin all received Division I rating Superior medals. Abbey Schafer received a
Division II rating. Out of 60 girls competing, Mount Ayr had four girls place in the top 12 - England, third; Quick, fifth; Martin, 11th; and, Brokaw-McAlexander, 12th. The Sparks are
now preparing for the ISDTA State Team Competition on December 3 at Wells Fargo Arena [in Des Moines, Iowa.]

State champs again!
Members of the Mount Ayr Community High School Sparks drill team show off their trophies from the Iowa State Drill Team Championships held Thursday, December 3 in Des Moines. The Sparks placed first in the Class IV Pom division and second in the Class I Novelty division.Team members include: (back row, L-R): Ryann Martin, Kennedy McAlexander, Caroline McAlexander, Sparks coach Kim Curry, MacKenzie Shields and Abbey Schafer.
Drill team takes first at State By Laura Davison
The Mount Ayr Sparks drill team traveled to state competition at Wells Fargo Arena on December 3 in Des Moines, Iowa. There are nine members on the Sparks team this year and include: Seniors: Laura Davison, Kirsten Dolecheck, Ashton Quick; Junior: Haylea England; Sophomores: Abbey Schafer, Kennedy McAlexander; and Freshmen: MacKenzie Shields, Ryann Martin and Caroline McAlexander.The girls performed a pom routine, which was the Disney princesses. The girls all had a great time at state.

Receive awards
Haylea England (left) and Ryann Martin received a Starbound and Elite Gold for their duet "Dollhouse." They placed third overall in the seniors division. Haylea also placed fourth overall with an Elite Gold in the seniors division
for her solo "Dog Days Are Over." Ryann received a High Gold for her solo "Shatter Me." Both solos and their duet will be performed at the Sparks Expo Friday, February 26.

Sparks hold annual Expo
The Mount Ayr Sparks held their annual Sparks Expo Friday, February 26 to a packed high school gymnasium. Featured in the expo were the Mount Ayr Sparks drill team, the Creston dance team and the
Southwestern Iowa Community College Dazzlers. The Sparks also choreographed dances with elementary aged children and performed with them shortly after the intermission.
