Sparks second at state drill,
also receive academic award

Trophy case hardward
The Mount Ayr Sparks drill team placed second in both the pom division and the novelty division at the Iowa State Drill Team competition held December 4 in Des Moines.
Members of the Sparks include (kneeling) Ashton QUick and Haylea England; (standing, L-R) Laura Davison, Megan Warin, Bailey Anderson, Sadie Frost and Hannah Glendenning.

The Mount Ayr Sparks drill team brought home a pair of second place-trophies from the Iowa State Drill Team competition held in Des Moines December 4.

The Mount Ayr girls also received the Distinguished Academic Excellence award, which means the girls' GPA are between 3.5 and 4.0.

The Sparks performed their novelty routine, which has a theme of Alice in Wonderland, and their pom routine, which is a mix of 80's rock music.

In order to place at state, each of the dances also had to score a I rating.

Members of the Sparks include Ashton Quick, Haylea England, Laura Davison, Megan Warin, Bailey Anderson, Sadie Frost and Hannah Glendenning.

Both of the dances were choreographed by Amber Martin from Norwalk. Coaches for the Sparks are Kris Quick and Kalian Smith.

After showing their pom routine at the December 5 basketball game, the Sparks will perform their state novelty routine on December 19 during halftime of the boys basketball game.

Both dances can also be seen on February 27 at the Sparks Expo.
