Freshmen: Mitchell Jennett, Ashton Sheil, Tessa Shields, Macy Larsen, Megan Warin, Kelcie Shields, Amber Cox,
Blair Glendenning, Michael Hanan, Hope Flethall, Breanne Haley, Megan Reasoner, Cassie Brand, Sadie Frost and Cheynne Haveman.
The MACHS large group speech team traveled to Clarinda January 25 and competed in the district meet, and three of the six
events advanced to the state meet in Ankeny on February 8. A short film by Lew Knapp, Wyatt Jackson, Dawson Knapp,
Macy Lilienthal and Collier Wilmes received a I rating. The film, entitlted "Winter War," is about a possible invasion by
the Russians. The group improvisation team of Allison Wallace, Shelbie Greene, Lew Knapp and Mitchell Jennett also
advanced to the state meet. Their situation was "at a fast food restaurant and you cannot touch the food." Also advancing
to state was the Radio Broadcast team of Allison Wallace, Matt Poore, Leah Klejch, Ica Hauge, Shelbie Greene, Ashton
Sheil and Blair Glendenning. Receiving a II rating was the solo mime of Alex Young and the short film by Alex Young, Jennifer
King, Sean Davis and Gavin Dine. This was the first time for all of these performers in these events, and they now know
what to work on for next year.
The group improvisation team of Jacob Sobotka, Matt Poore, Hagan Willis and Tyler Triggs also received a II rating.
The judge commmented that one of the boys touched the wall in the room and that is against the rulles.The MACHS
individual district speech competition was held on March 1 at Winterset, Iowa. 16 pieces went to competition and
half of those will go on to the state comtest on March 15 in Glenwood.
Macy Lilienthal performed an acting piece entitled, Dogface, and received a II rating. She also performed her in
prose, a short story that she wrote herself entitled Jack and Jill Had a Spill. She received a II rating on this pieces as
well. Alex Young performed an Edgar Allen Poe selection in poetry and a short story she wrote herself entitled, City of
Witches. Alex received a II on both pieces. Wyatt Jackson performed in Public Address where the speaker memorizes and retells
someone else's speech. Wyatt gave Newt Rockne's speech to his team before the Army football game. Wyatt received a II rating.
Kody Weeda did a selection of Shakespeare's poems and received a II rating. Jacob Sobotka and Blair Glendenning performred in
the radio broadcast. The broadcasts have to last at least 4 minutes, but can be no longer than 5 minutes. Blair was under
time, so was disqualified. Jacob received a II rating.
Aliison Wallace performed in both poetry and storytelling. Her poetry, Dr. Seuss' The Butter Battle and her
storytelling, Seriously, Cinderella, is so Annoying, both received I ratings. Ica Hauge, Leah Klejch and Shelbie Green all
competed in the literary program category. This category consists of poems and short story all with the same theme. All three
girls received I ratings. Ica's program was entitled, Life Lessons; Leah's was Speaking Your Mind; and Shelbie's program was
entitled Unexpected Friendships. Mitchell Jennett preformed a radio broadcast and received a I rating. Lew Knapp performed an
acting piece entitled, The Beanstalk, in which he is Jack, and received a I rating, sending him on to state. Matt Poore
was involved in improvisation. He drew the characters of a concrete contractor and a publisher with the situation of doing
an acty for the world book of records. Matt's performance also is sending him on to state.The students will participate
in the state speech contest on March 15 in Glenwood.
