Foundation Night honors Mount Ayr state track champions Foundation Night honors athletes,
past and present
Members of the 1988 state champion girls track team were honored Friday night at the Foundation
Night sponsored by the Mount Ayr Community Foundation. During the celebration participants at the 1988 meet present
at Friday's recognition recreate the team picture that appeared in the Record-News following their championship.
Team members include (clockwise from bottom left) Jenny (Shields) O'Brien, Coach Mark Larsen, Jill (Taylor)
Weehler, Jamie (Jones) Boos, Jody (Shields) Lipcamon, Traci (Larson) Knoll, Coach Dave Still, Kim
McGinnis) Foster, Dawn (Huff) Elliott and Ann (Foltz) Semrad.

The Mount Ayr Community Foundation held its annual Foundation Night January 30.Honored guests recognized
during the basketball games included Mount Ayr individual and team state track meet champions. For the Raiderettes
individual champions in attendance included Kim McGinnis Foster, Class of 1988, shot put; Dawn Huff Elliott, Class of
1990, two-time long jump; and Melissa Eighmy Friedrich, Class of 1998, 400 meter hurdles. Coaches of girls champions in
attendance were Dave Still, Mark Larsen and Mark Budach. Girls on the 1988 state championship track team who attended
include Ann Foltz Semrad, Shaun Hayes Kniep, Dawn Huff Elliott, Jamie Jones Boos, Nichole Landphair Opfer, Traci Larson
Knoll, Angie Main Glendenning, Elsa McAlexander Schmidt, Emily McAlexander Roepsch, Kim McGinnis Foster, Jenny Shields
O'Brien, Jody Shields Lipcamon, Jennifer Stephens Burn and Jill Taylor Weehler. For the Raiders, individual state
champs appearing Friday night included Dan Roe, Class of 1968, 120-yard hurdles; Ed Defenbaugh, Class of 1970,
400 meters; Brent Geringer, Class of 1974, four gold medals in shot and discus; Brad Elliott, Class of 2000, 800
meters; and Kyle Dolecheck, Class of 2016, 800 meters. Coaches of the boys champions in attendance included Ron
Landphair, Brad Elliott and Kurt Wallace. Members of the 2014 state champion Raider team appearing Friday night
included Cody Stackhouse, Matt Poore, Dawson Knapp, Erik Freed, Joe Ricker, Lincoln Martin, Riley Weehler, Grant Staats,
Tyler Triggs, Kyle Dolecheck, Caleb Schnoor, Rhett Murphy, Wyatt Jackson, Jed McCreary, Lincoln Lutrick, Nick Wurster,
Ethan McGill, Trever Anderson, Trevor Gooding, Heath Andresen, Mitchell Jennett, Cal Daughton and Devin Russo.
The Foundation Night is an annual fundraiser for the MAC Foundation. The $700 raised Friday brings to $4,200 the
amount that has been raised towards the $10,000 match from the South Central Iowa [Page 3] Community Foundation. The vision
of the Mount Ayr Community School Foundation Board is to make a substantial, positive impact on our area youth and the
community in which they live by supporting their ever changing educational needs. The MACS Foundation is driven by the
support of the school's dedication alumni and those with the compassion and generosity to ensure the ever-changing
needs of our local youth are met today so they can flourish in the future. The board works closely with the South
Central Iowa Community Foundation, who manages the MACS Foundation Endowment. Through fundraising activities and
events, grants and private donations, the money is put into the MACS Endowment, so that the interest each year can be
used for scholarships, classroom grants and other educational or extracurricular needs. The foundation board is committed
to supporting academics, educational and extracurricular activities. In the past three years the foundation has:
awarded three $250 scholarships. awarded two $200 classroom grants. hosted the 50 year football team
the past two years and will continue this tradition. provided the Hall of Fame Banquet meal in October 2014 and
will continue to do annually. hosted the 1973-74-75 basketball teams, cheerleaders and coaches, January 2014.
hosted the individual and team state track champions, January 2015. held two Quilt Fess with another
scheduled for April 2015.A goal is to get the MACS alumni back on the Mount Ayr Community School campus and showcase
the history of Mount Ayr Community School. If anyone would like to become involved in the foundation, contact a
foundation board member (Jodie Geist, Brad Elliott, Joan Jackson, Brandy Shy, Dave McNeill, Molly Murphy, Kegan
Bishop, Jill Weehler, Barbie Belzer, Martha Landphair, Ron Landphair, Delwyn Showalter and David Greene) or come to the
next meeting on February 25 at 4:30 p.m. in Jodie Geist's classroom at the high school. For those interested in
donating to the foundation, checks can be mailed to Jodie Geist at the high school or to the South Central Iowa
Community Foundation listing on the memo line: "MACS Foundation."
