Mount Ayr Community High School
1967-1968 Ayrian

Mr. Geiger

Mr. Geiger became a part of our school in 1951. Since then he has been instrumental in attaining North Central membership, and also was responsible for a smooth county reorganization. He has worked hard for the betterment of pupil and teacher alike. He usually has a friendly word and smile for students and staff, and while he runs a tight ship, no one has ever complained that he wasn't fair.

For your many hours of service to our school, Mr. Geiger, we dedicate this 1968 Ayrian to you.

The Editors

These three, sincerity, impartial, and knowledge, make up the three
sides of a great Administrator and friend, Mr. O. C. Walker.

Rose are red,
Violets are blue,
You got a carnation
That's the best we could do.

(left) Even Mr. Geiger has to take lip from the teachers!   (right) Relaxing in one of his FEW spare moments.

Our President, Pat Carr
Hi-Y is a service organization and is a affliated with the Young Men's Christian Association. During the year, the club regularly sponsors three dances: A Freak-Out, the Christmas Ball, and the Camp Sunnyside Dance, which is a benefit dance. They work for the UMCA world-service. Members are called on to help with many fund-raising drives, such as the March of Dimes. They also take part in other community service projects, all in the Christian spirit.

Three girls from our club participated in the YMCA Youth and Government program in Des Moines, shown above.
One active service club of Mount Ayr is that of Tri-Hi-Y. We have many various activities in which members can participate.

A few of our service projects include: taking nut cups to Nursing Homes and the hospital on holidays, collecting clothes for the needy, collecting hose to send to Camp Sunnyside, sending cookies to the Children's homes in Council Bluffs, and taking a food basket to a needy family at Christmas.

All the money received at the Smogasbord is sent to the UMCA World Service Contribution.

Our officers also attended the Leadership Training Camp at Lake Okoboji in September.
Our Smorgabord is always an experience of learning. Two seniors are finaly getting the idea of how work is done in the picture below.

The 1967-1968 members of the office staff were:
Beverly Adams, Verlene Denny, Billie Ruth Egly, Pam Knight, Terrie Mason,
Carlotta May, Brenda Payne, Becky Skarda, and Cheryl Woollums.

The 1967-1968 library staff consisted of: Janice Bullock, Kathy Duffield,

NEWS spells Noise Every Wednesday Second. The main reason for all this noise is because Student Ayr assignments are due. People writing, typing, and talking are only a few of the things that happen in Room 12 during Journalism.

Each week our student news appears in the Record News. Editor is Mary Beth Kobbe.

Communiaue is published throught the year and sold for 10 cents to high school students and faculty. It covers many of the articles that have appeared in Student Ayr and also sports and feature articles.

Chapter officers for 1967-68 are: Jerry Shaw, treasurer; Cecil Dolecheck, sentinel; Wayne Dolecheck, president; Russell Manning, secretary; Tom Pollock, vice-president; Larry Foltz, reporter; and Mr. R. E. Hauptmann, chapter advisor.

The 1967-68 senior class officers are: President, John Reasoner; Vice-president Stephen Trullinger; Secretary-Treasurer John Herren. The duties of these officers are to record and account for Safe Corn Harvest, card sales, and fruit sales, besides pictures and captions for the FFA Chapter to be in the Ayrian.

The FSA offers one means of stimulating the science interested students. The members
may be found going on field trips, experimenting, working on science projects,
or planning for the annual science fair, which the club sponsors.
The program of the club meetings often include films on such topics as LSD,
the analytic balance or the speed of light.

The pictures shows a typical learning session with the sponsor, Mr. Geringer.
